New Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop Release Confirmed

Published

on

A new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release has been confirmed and it appears that it will hit users sometime early next month.

In February, Samsung started rolling out the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update. The release came as a bit of a surprise given that the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 Lollipop updates both landed in late February. Samsung typically updates its current flagships before updating its older devices. The Galaxy S4 is nearly two years old while the Galaxy Note 3 is now more than a year out from its release.

Since its initial release, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update has made progress. It has landed for several international variants and it has hit two US carriers including AT&T and Sprint. Samsung still has a ton of work to do though it looks like the company is set to make some progress during the month of April.

Note-4-Store

Canadian carrier Bell claims that it will release the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update in early April. The carrier made the claim on Twitter though it did not outline a specific Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release date. Carriers rarely out specific release dates ahead of time because Android update releases are dependent on the testing process behind the scenes.

That said, this is the first concrete release window we’ve seen for Canada and at the very least, it looks like Galaxy Note 4 users on Bell will get their upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop next month. It also could mean a widespread Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release in Canada will take place next month.

Canadian Android update roll outs typically hit most carriers at once. Rogers, TELUS, and other Bell rivals have yet to confirm specific release windows but there’s a good chance that they will deploy their firmware next month, around the same time that Bell does. Rogers was the first to confirm a Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release though the carrier still states that a release date is “To Be Determined.”

Note-4-health

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update is still limited in most places including here in the United States where it’s only live on two major carriers. T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon have yet to release their own versions of the update and only T-Mobile has confirmed an update ahead of its release.

The T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update is still listed in “Manufacturer Development” which means that the software hasn’t been handed off to the carrier for internal testing. Carrier testing is unpredictable though it typically takes a few weeks to complete. What this means is that the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop upgrade isn’t imminent.

Samsung’s Android updates tend to take several months to complete. And with Android 5.0 Lollipop problems plaguing owners of the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy Note 4, the company and its carrier partners seem to be taking their time with Google’s brand new operating system.

Note-4-briefing

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop upgrade represents the device’s first major Android update and as such, it brings a ton of new features (and problems) along with it. The Canadian Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update will likely be no different.

Galaxy Note 4 users in Canada can expect sweeping changes that include a number of new features, enhancements and a new look thanks to Google’s new Material Design. Carriers typically also tack on their own enhancements and fixes. Bell did not outline its full change log when it made the announcement and we don’t expect to learn about the update’s contents until the roll out begins.

With just a few days to go before the calendar switches over the April, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 users in Canada can start keeping an eye out for the arrival of their first big update. It should be here soon.

Unless this article is talking about Android 5.1 it is incorrect. AT&T has already updated its Note 4 to 5.0.1. I believe they were the last to do so, but have yet to update the s5, where Verzion and I believe T-mobile have. Maybe I miss read the article?

Have had Lollipop on my note 4 since Feb of this year with Bell Canada. Just got an update from Bell today. Version on the phone is 5.0.1…so it would be nice to know what was included in the update.
