Xbox Black Ops 3 Beta Problems: 5 Things to Know

Published

on

The worst Xbox One Black Ops 3 problems are probably behind us but this is still a beta and problems will continue. With that in mind, we want to take a look at what you need to know about Xbox One Black Ops 3 problems as we push towards the beta’s end date.

With a Call of Duty Black Ops 3 release date still months away, developer Treyarch and its partners have been running a beta in an attempt to get the multiplayer portion of the game ready for its November release date. The stress test will help the developer iron out balance and sever issues as well as patch up newly discovered bugs and problems.

In the end, the developer hopes that its trio of betas will help it deliver a more polished version of Black Ops 3 to PC, Xbox One and PS4 in the fall.

Black-Ops-3-Beta-1

Last week, Treyarch released the first Black Ops 3 beta for PS4. This is a big change from previous years where Xbox users got access to key Call of Duty features first. Treyarch extended the PS4 Black Ops 3 beta though it finally closed up for players earlier this week.

Shortly after its conclusion, the developer launched (well, tried to launch) the Xbox One Black Ops 3 beta. The company sent out game codes a little bit early but as many of you know, the Xbox One Black Ops 3 beta release was marred by frustrating problems that prevented users from accessing the game.

With those initial problems and new Xbox One Black Ops 3 problems in mind, we want to tell you five important things to know about Black Ops 3 beta issues for Xbox One.

Xbox One Black Ops 3 Download Problems Fixed

The Xbox One Black Ops 3 beta problems that plagued users earlier this week appear to have been fixed. We, and many others, were able to download the Black Ops 3 beta yesterday without any problems and we’ve heard from several people who have successfully downloaded the beta today.

Treyarch has thanked gamers for their patience as they, and Microsoft, worked to resolve the problems with the game codes.

If you are still having problems downloading the game, take a look at our guide. We’ve also put together a fix that will help you access the game if you pre-ordered from Best Buy.

Xbox Black Ops 3 Server Problems

Xbox One Black Ops 3 beta players have been running into server and connection issues during the first 24 hours of the beta process. We’ve been noticing similar problems.

We, and many others, been continually knocked out of games. This has happened both when we’re in a party with friends and when we’re playing alone. It’s also very sudden and comes without warning. Users also claim that the game occasionally force resets itself when playing with friends.

If you’re unable to establish a connection with servers, you’ll want to try rebooting the Xbox One. You can simply hit the power button or you can try unplugging it for a few minutes to reset the cache to see if that works.

We, and others, have also seen server issues wherein the game fails to display the team leaderboards or only shows one team’s essential stats. This has happened several times since the start of the beta and at the moment, there doesn’t appear to be a manual fix for this issue. Black-Ops-3 Server problems typically impact the final version of Call of Duty games so it hasn’t been surprising to see them emerge as hordes of Xbox One players rush to try the game out ahead of its release date. If you decide to try the Xbox One Black Ops 3 beta, know that there is a potential for server problems and that you’ll most likely have to ride them out.

Xbox Black Ops 3 Freezing & Other Problems

Freezing is another major Xbox One Black Ops 3 problem affecting people in the aftermath of the release. A huge thread on Reddit discusses the issues in detail and the issue is widespread enough that its caused Treyarch to confirm that it’s working on a fix behind the scenes.

The developer hasn’t said when users can expect a fix for the Black Ops 3 beta freezing issue though one is currently in the works behind the scenes.

Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar has said that users should be careful when using a manual fix that’s floating around. The manual fix involves deleting friends on your friends list. While this unorthodox fix seems to have worked for some people, it’s not recommended.

Server issues and freezes aren’t the only issues plaguing those in the beta. Treyarch, in a lengthy thread, has outlined some of the more common problems affecting Xbox One users:

  • Variable zoom does not work
  • Difficult/impossible to join friends
  • You cannot unmute players after muting them

Patch Will Probably Fix Some Problems

Treyarch has confirmed plans to issue a fix for the freezing problems (it has already fixed the issue on the PC) and we could see that fix, and others, come in the form of a patch.

The developer released a patch for the PS4 Black Ops 3 beta shortly after it was released and we’d expect the developer to deliver at least one before the beta ends. Just don’t expect it to fix everything.

Xbox One Black Ops 3 users have put together a list of common issues and feedback that may not get fixed until the final version of the game arrives in November:

  • “Choose class” needs some reworking to show full class items in preview
  • Razorback (SMG) may need tuning, wining a large amount of gunfights.
  • Flinch may need to be toned down slightly
  • Stuns may be too powerful
  • Add firing range and death hitmarker from AW
  • Add ability to customize HUD
  • TTK is inconsistent (too heavily linked to connection).
  • Issues differentiating friendlies and enemies.
  • Specialists may need to be balanced
  • Killstreaks are getting more kills for lower steaks than higher streaks.(hc-xd, dart, hellstorm take out ~4 people, while RAPS rolling thunder and GI Unit are ~2)
  • More gun variety (riot shield?)
  • Streaks are too easy to take down.
  • Sniper balance might be needed.
  • Grenade throws are too short.
  • Leveling feels slow

How to Report Black Ops 3 Beta Problems

If you do see a Black Ops 3 problem on Xbox One, you’ll want to report it to Treyarch so that the company can handle it ahead of the game’s release. This is the point of the beta.

Black-Ops-3_Specialist-Prophet

Before you take to Reddit or another forum to provide feedback though, you’ll want to take a look at this post from Vondervaar. The Treyarch executive outlines the proper way to deliver feedback to him and his team. Take a look at that before you post on official forums or the Reddit megathread.

Xbox One Black Ops 3 Beta: 10 Things to Try

Try Out Each Specialist

Try Out Each Specialist

Black Ops 3 is going to be introducing several new elements to the Call of Duty franchise. One of the biggest is the addition of Specialists. Specialists come with their own look but more importantly, they come with unique weapons and abilities.

Here's the breakdown of the Specialist classes that you'll most likely encounter during the Xbox One Black Ops 3 beta:

Battery: Battery operates ahead of the front lines. Her War Machine fires salvos of bouncing grenades, while her Kinetic Armor can deflect enemy bullets when active… though she remains vulnerable to headshots and non-bullet damage.

Ruin: A reckless infantry soldier who prefers to surprise his enemies. He rushes into battle with his Overdrive ability, and can deliver a devastating shockwave with his Gravity Spikes.

Outrider: A hunter-tracker who stalks her prey from afar before moving in for the kill. Use her Vision Pulse ability to reveal the location of nearby enemies or her Sparrow compound bow with its deadly explosive bolts.

Prophet: Prefers to disrupt opponents’ tactics before moving in for the kill. His Tempest is a charge-shot weapon that delivers chain electricity to all nearby enemies. He can confuse enemies with his Glitch ability, which flashes him back to a previous position.

Seraph: Known for extreme focus and discipline in combat. Her high-caliber Annihilator revolver fires powerful rounds with increased bullet penetration taking out enemies with one shot. She’s also able to earn Scorestreaks more quickly using her Combat Focus ability, which triggers a brief bonus multiplier.

Nomad: Prefers to turn the environment against his enemies. Case in point: His H.I.V.E. weapon, which deploys trap pods filled with deadly nano-drones. When near death, Nomad can recover using his Rejack ability.

You'll want to try out each Specialist so that you develop a comfort level with one or more of them. There's a good chance that one will fit your style better than the other so you'll want to use the beta to do a bit of experimentation.

In order to really dig in though you'll need to play as each one. As you level up, you'll gain unlock tokens that allow you to access new weapons and abilities. So, give each a shot and that way, you'll be better prepared for the public release in November.
