Google Pixel C Tablet Release Date Arrives

Published

on

Back on September 29th when Google unveiled the brand new Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P smartphones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the company ended the show with a stunning new tablet called the Google Pixel C. A stock Android tablet made entirely by Google, built to take on the iPad Air, and it’s now available starting today.

Earlier this year rumors suggested Google would not release an Android tablet in 2015 under the Nexus program, and instead drop two smartphones for buyers. Turns out both rumors were right, in a way. There’s no new Nexus to replace the Nexus 9, but Google has just released the $499 “Pixel C” Tablet with a 10.2-inch display running stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The Nexus 7 and even the Nexus 9 were both made by HTC, in partnership with Google. However, the all-new Pixel C is a pure stock Android tablet made entirely by Google, similar to recent Chromebooks, and it has some fancy features buyers need to know about. Read above for some information about the tablet, and below for all you need to know, and where to buy one right now.

The Pixel C Tablet is Google’s take on a top-tier premium Android tablet. Aimed at taking on the Galaxy Tab S2, iPad Air 2, Surface, or anything else that isn’t a small and cheap portable tablet. It’s an all-in-one do it all tablet, and Google’s selling it as of today for $499 at the Google Store. Why anyone would buy it over the Surface Book or some other Windows devices is up to them, but without the keyboard it still makes for a great pure Android tablet experience.

Rather than replace the Nexus 7 or Nexus 9, this year Google opted for something different. The Pixel C was designed 100% by Google, has no manufacturer partnered with it, and comes with a magical magnetic kickstand and keyboard with amazing battery life, all for a relatively low price.

Those curious about the impressive looking device above will want to know all about it before shelling out $500 or more to get Google’s latest Android tablet this holiday season.

The Pixel C tablet has the same premium all aluminum design as the Chromebook Pixel, and the same multi-colored lightbar on back too. And it serves a purpose, double tap it, and you’ll see the remaining battery life. A pretty neat little feature. That said, here are the full specs that Google’s released, and even though it’s for sale we still don’t have the full details.

Pixel C Tablet Specs

  • 10.2-inch 2560 x 1800 Quad-HD (308 ppi) display
  • 64 bit Quad-Core NVIDIA Tegra X1 Processor with 3GB of RAM
  • 32 or 64GB of internal storage
  • USB Type-C Port for charging, display port output, HDMI out and more
  • Magnetic Bluetooth Keyboard (with tons of awesome features)
  • Dual Speakers on each side of tablet
  • more

The Pixel C has a large 10.2-inch Quad-HD display that Google claims looks amazing, and one of the most powerful NVIDIA Tegra X1 processors on the market. It’s more powerful than the NVIDIA SHIELD TV, and many other high-end gaming Android devices. It packs tons of power, 3GB of RAM for multi-tasking, and using that keyboard to the fullest.

Of course it has a USB Type-C port for charging, display port to stream content to an HDTV or monitor, and even HDMI out all with the USB Type-C port. It does it all. It runs stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the promise of quick updates, features dual speakers on each side of the tablet, as well as a front and rear camera of unknown resolution. They’ll probably be pretty good considering the price.

Magnetic Bluetooth Keyboard

The Pixel C tablet will come with an optional aluminum and extremely thin and lightweight Bluetooth keyboard, but it’s expensive and comes in at an extra $150, bringing the total to $649 for the 32GB model. The keyboard attaches to the tablet magnetically, and knows when its attached for use, and turns the tablet more into a laptop, without a popup keyboard and other traditional features.

It connects via Bluetooth and Google claims the battery should never need to be recharged, under the right circumstances. It lasts over a month on a single charge if not used right. The best feature though, is the smart magnets that let it attach to the tablet. It’s smart enough to know when it’s attached for use, when it’s neatly tucked away on bottom, and it even features inductive charging.

This means the tablet itself will slowly recharge the keyboard when not in use. Google claims it will never need to be recharged, but if you forget to attach the keyboard, it should still last up to 30 days without a recharge. Meaning using it here and there, it could last for a very long time.

The new Google Pixel C Android tablet has a lot to offer, runs stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and the optional keyboard is rather neat. Google said it would be available before the holidays, and out of the blue released it in a 32 and 64GB version this morning. Get it today from the Google Store, then buy the keyboard if you’d like.
