Babies under the age of 2 are arguably too young to understand them, but a movie or a TV show’s ability to keep the young ones busy and preoccupied cannot be denied. If you are here and accept that a little bit of responsible TV time is OK for your child, then we’ve got a list of the best shows and movies on Netflix Kids that you surely will find useful.

Netflix Kids is simply a service of Netflix that automatically filters out adult titles, supposedly for your convenience. As it is, however, Netflix Kids still has a wide assortment of titles, all of which are categorized in at least one of eighteen categories. Wading through them can be a tiresome ordeal, especially if you are new to using the service. So to help you out, we took a deep dive and came up with a few choice picks to help you get started. If you have any favorites you think we should include, please leave a comment at the bottom of the page. Suggestions are arranged alphabetically.

Ask the Storybots

(1 season, 6 episodes)

For your curious little kid, this show features five cute creatures that constantly go on adventures to try and figure out important things, like how airplanes fly and why the sky is blue. It has six episodes that feature guest stars like Whoopi Goldberg, Jay Leno, Kevin Smith, and “Weird Al” Yankovic.

Baby Genius

The best way to teach babies anything at an early age is through song. Baby Genius, a brand renowned for creating award-winning products for toddlers, has a slew of sing-a-long videos on Netflix Kids that you can choose from to keep your little one’s brain engaged and happy. They can learn about the many kinds of baby animals (Baby Genius: Baby Animals Favorite Sing-a-longs). They can clap and stomp along to well-known nursery rhymes (Baby Genius: Favorite Nursery Rhymes) and children’s songs (Baby Genius: Favorite Children’s Songs). They can also learn to count (Baby Genius: Favorite Counting Songs) and sing along (Baby Genius: Favorite Sing-a-longs)!

Beat Bugs

(2 seasons, 13 episodes each)

If you are a major fan of The Beatles, then this show is a must-add to your Netflix Kids queue. Inspired by the music of the iconic English rock band from Liverpool, this animated series centers on five bug buds who unite and learn new things as they explore the vast universe they live in (a backyard). Performed by artists such P!nk, Sia, Robbie Williams, and The Lumineers, there’s a little something here for everybody to enjoy and love.

Care Bears & Cousins

(2 seasons, 6 episodes each)

Anybody whose childhood started in the 80s would know about the wonderful colorful characters known as the Care Bears. The latest version, which was commissioned by Netflix, features the same huggable creatures we’ve grown to love as children, as well as their “cousins” for the next generation to delight in.

Curious George

(1 hour, 30 minutes)

What happens when The Man in the Yellow Hat finds himself the caretaker of a curious little monkey? They form a wonderful friendship and go on fun-filled adventures in the city! This animated film – featuring the voice talents of Will Ferrell and Drew Barrymore – is a joy to watch with kids and kids at heart. Not only that, but the soundtrack – produced and performed by Jack Johnson – is so good, you wouldn’t mind hearing the songs over and over again.

When an alien race called the Boov invade planet Earth with plans of calling it “home”, fourteen year-old Tip is separated from her mom. As she makes her way through her city in an effort to reunite with her, she runs into Oh, a lowly member of the Boov who is disliked by his own kind. The movie is about the unlikely friendship they form and the many adventures they get themselves into.

Fantasia and Fantasia 2000

(2 hours, 6 minutes and 1 hour, 15 minutes respectively)

Highly regarded as one of Walt Disney’s most important works, Fantasia pioneered what would become the music video industry by showcasing various animated shorts using popular classical music masterpieces. Your baby will love focusing his or her gaze on the dancing fairies, billowing leaves, marching mops, and dancing hippos onscreen as the lyrical works of Bach, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Beethoven, and others stimulate his ears.

The iconic film was then updated sixty years after its original release, using more modern technology and seven newer animations, including one favorite from the original classic.

Harry and His Bucket Full of Dinosaurs

(1 season, 26 episodes)

When Harry receives a bucket of toy dinosaurs from his nana, he had no idea it would give him access to Dino World, a place where he can let his imagination run wild. Together with his new set of dinosaur friends, he learns about life and what it has to offer. If you need help remembering the dinosaurs’ names, allow the show’s theme song to play on loop in your daddy and mommy minds.

Julius Jr.

(2 seasons, 26 episodes each)

Anyone who knows Paul Frank would recognize this iconic monkey. Designed for inquisitive preschool-aged children, Julius Jr. is an animated series that features a monkey that loves creativity and innovation. Together with his friends Worry Bear, Sheree, Clancy, and Ping, they use a cardboard playhouse they built to bring inventions to life.

Justin Time and Justin Time Go!

(3 seasons, 13 episodes each)

If you’d like your child to be exposed early to important lessons like good manners, helping others, and how winning isn’t everything, Justin Time is a great show to get into. Every episode features a unique setting and time, as well as a different obstacle Justin must face, along with his sidekick Squidgy and best friend Olive.

In 2014, Netflix commissioned an additional season of 13, 30-minute episodes of the Canadian animated television show and released it under the title, Justin Time Go!

Kazoops!

Kipper: Puppy Love

Kipper is a friendly, curious, and lovable dog – based on the books by British writer Mike Inkpen – that has an excitement for fun and adventure. In this particular release, Kipper chances upon a magician’s hat, tracks a mysterious creature, barters for sweets, and lots of other adventures that introduce us to his friends Tiger, Pig, Mouse, and Arnold.

Leapfrog Phonics Farm

(34 minutes)

If your baby enjoys Leapfrog brand toys, then they’ll probably enjoy watching this film that features Scout and his friends. Together, they meet other animals and learn the different sounds of all the letters in the alphabet. Watch this video on repeat to inspire your kid to learn his or her ABCs.

Little Baby Bum

(1 hour)

If you need an hour’s worth of wonderful nursery rhymes to keep your baby entertained (or maybe even lull him or her to sleep) while you are busy doing other household chores, make sure this is on your Netflix Kids list and have it playing in the background, while your child is in a comfortable position.

Little Einsteins

(2 seasons, 28 and 39 episodes respectively)

Four friends travel in a rocket ship and go on various missions. In every episode, a painting and a classic song is featured. This is a great show to watch to expose your kid to art and classical music.

Maya the Bee

(1 season, 39 episodes)

Follow the adventures of Maya as she is born into a world she cannot wait to explore. Watch her discover things, make friends, and have fun!

Mouk

(1 season, 30 episodes)

Mouk is a little bear who travels around the world on his bike. Together with his best friend Chavapa, he visits famous places and learns about different cultures. It’s a great show for your child to watch and start learning about different countries, traditions, and other beautiful discoveries.

Pooh’s Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin

Christopher Robin would like to keep hanging out with his best friend Winnie the Pooh, but he needs to go to school. So he leaves him a note, but Pooh misunderstands it. With the help of Rabbit, Tigger, and Piglet, Pooh sets off on a mission across the Hundred Acre Wood to try and find Christopher Robin. Winnie the Pooh is one of the most iconic characters of all time, and is definitely one you should introduce to your child as early as you can.

Pooh’s Heffalump Movie

Here’s another Winnie the Pooh movie you should see – it involves a mysterious noise echoing through the Hundred Acre Wood. Scared Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and Piglet run to Rabbit for advice, who knows exactly what the source is: a heffalump. Rather than hide, Pooh and friends decide to go on an expedition to try and catch the heffalump, and are surprised but what they find.

Poppy Cat

Poppy Cat is an animated series based on a character in children’s books created by British writer and illustrator Lara Jones. It’s got everything: colorful and stimulating animation, great stories, good music, and soothing voice acting that could calm down a restless child easy.

Sarah & Duck

(2 seasons, 13 episodes each)

Here’s another show that has voice acting that’s so pleasant to the ears, even stressed out parents can enjoy watching along with the kids. This time, the focus is on Sarah and her pet duck, aptly named Duck. They spend every waking moment together, accompanied by a narrator who talks to both of them as well as those they meet on their adventures.

Super Why!

(3 seasons, 64, 15, and 23 episodes respectively)

If you want a show full of learning, look no further: Super Why is exactly why. Join Wyatt and his pals as they take on a new problem every episode by looking into a story for clues that will solve a puzzle. A great show to watch to encourage better letter identification, word comprehension, and overall reading skills.

The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!

(2 seasons, 40 and 20 episodes respectively)

Another thing any good parent should do is to introduce their kid to the wonderful works of Dr. Seuss, and the best way to get started, apart from the books, is through this show starring the beloved Cat in the Hat. Keep your kid engaged through songs and games with a companion that knows a little something about everything.

The Hero of Color City

(1 hour, 17 minutes)

After Ben goes to bed, his set of crayons come to life and go to Color City. There, they enjoy a world full of hues and happiness. But things go awry when Yellow – voiced by Christina Ricci – accidentally summons two unfinished drawings who threaten to destroy their vibrant city. To save their homeland from being drained of color, the crayons band together to protect it from further destruction.

The Little Prince

(1 hour, 46 minutes)

We already mentioned this movie as one of Netflix’s best original programming, so it’s a given that we include it in this list: not only is it suitable for adults who grew up reading the book or watching the 1974 version of the movie, it also appeals to today’s younger demographic. Introduce your child to a stronger sense of wonder through the lovable characters that appear in this beautiful adaptation, both familiar and brand-new.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Stories

Eric Carle is a wonderful writer and illustrator of children’s books, and his works are beloved by many. This video is a collection of his most famous stories, narrated and fully animated using drawings from the picture books you know and love.

Tooby’s (in English)

You can never have enough nursery rhymes. Toobys lets you teach your little one about colors, letters, numbers, animals, and a whole lot more accompanied by nicely drawn animation and catchy singing. If you need more, there’s also a volume 2 available.

VeggieTales in the House

(4 seasons, 15, 11, 13, and 13 episodes respectively)

A great way to get your baby interested in veggies? Have them dance and sing around onscreen! Every episode features a song as well as an adventure the veggies go on. It’s entertaining, funny, and full of valuable lessons kids of all ages ought to learn. From veggies, of course.

Word Party

(2 seasons, 14 and 12 episodes respectively)

Get a little help building your baby’s vocabulary from four baby animals that sing, play, and dance as they teach new words. It’s perfect for kids who need a little practice speaking and responding to cues. Beware, though: the theme song is incredibly catchy and may get stuck in your head for hours on end.

Zoobabu

(1 season, 7 episodes)

Zoobabu is a unique guessing game 3D show that asks, what animal is inside the box? Every episode gives out a ton of clues, encourages young ones to come to their own conclusions, and entertains with stunning and colorful visuals.
