Don't Wait for a MicroLED Display

Apple is reportedly working on some big changes to the Apple Watch display, but those changes won't come in 2023.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to make custom in-house displays and the company will, assuming there aren't delays, start with the Apple Watch Ultra next year. This would allow the device to display brighter and more vibrant colors.

We should also see improved viewing angles and, according to Gurman, the new display will "make content appear like it's painted on top of the glass."

Two other sources also believe Apple will launch an overhauled Apple Watch Ultra in 2024 with a larger 2.1-inch micro-LED display.

One of those sources, Digitimes, has reiterated this belief in another report. The publication also believes the technology will eventually come to the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook lineups.

Analyst David Hsieh, from technology research firm Omdia, believes Apple will launch a new Apple Watch SE 3 and an Apple Watch X with larger displays next year.

However, well-sourced analyst Ross Young says we can expect the feature to debut on the Apple Watch Ultra in 2025, something that has seemingly been confirmed by Apple's supplier.

Young has reiterated this in a newer post and says the device won't launch until the second half 0f 2024, at the earliest. This means we could see further delays.

If this is something you might be interested in, it looks like you'll have to wait until next fall or later.
