In 2018, Apple brought the Apple Pencil, the company's stylus solution, to the budget 9.7-inch iPad. Last March, the company decided bring it to the iPad Mini line with the iPad Mini 5. 

The iPad Mini 4 doesn't support Apple Pencil, but the iPad mini 5 comes with support for the original Apple Pencil. Not to be confused with the second-gen Apple Pencil that launched with the iPad Pro's in the fall of 2018. 

The Apple Pencil is an optional accessory, but if you plan to use your iPad for more than watching movies and playing games, the stylus could come in handy.
