Don't Wait If You Can't Wait Until September

Waiting for the iPhone 14 might seem like a great idea, but the release date isn't close and that might be too far in the future for a lot of people.

We fully expect Apple to release the iPhone 14 models in the same timeframe it always uses. The iPhone 13 launched in September and you can expect the iPhone 14 to land in the same window in the fall of 2022.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says lockdowns in China have "not affected the development of most of Apple's unannounced products in 2022 so far" which means the iPhone 14 series should be on track.

That being said, it's worth noting that the supply chain issues could still impact the iPhone 14 series later this year.

The Wall Street Journal says Foxconn expects supply chain issues to stretch into the second half of 2022. In other words, even if the iPhone 14 launches on time, we could see stock get depleted fairly quickly at launch.

We've also heard that the development of at least one iPhone 14 model is three weeks behind schedule due to the lockdowns in China. As of right now it's unclear how this might impact Apple's launch.

That being said, respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple hasn't "changed the shipping plan for the iPhone 14 models since the Shanghai lockdown." He says the iPhone 14 Max is currently running behind schedule, but that suppliers can work overtime to catchup to Apple's schedule.

If you can't wait until September, or later, you'll want to start thinking about buying/waiting for another smartphone. Remember, if you upgrade to a new phone right now, you should be able to easily upgrade to an iPhone 14 a year from now.
