Picking up an Amiibo doesn’t completely unlock a game, for example. Instead, Amiibo are tiny dedicated add-ons, ways for those who own a Wii U or Nintendo 3DS to get power-ups and extras in a growing number of Nintendo titles.
Nintendo revealed a new generation of Wii U figures and accessories earlier this year. Expect the company to talk more about this new generation of Amiibo characters, the new Amiibo cards and how it hopes to deal with the growing shortage of Amiibo figures worldwide at E3 2015. Amiibo is core to Nintendo’s strategy to win over gamers going forward.
