How to Leave an iPhone Group Chat

iOS makes it easy to quickly leave a group chat on iPhone.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you’ve been added to a group chat on your iPhone and you end up wanting to leave? Fortunately, there’s a simple way to hit the eject button and put an end to unwanted messages.

Before you we show you how, note that if you’ve been added to a group chat with an Android user, and you’ll know that you have if your chat bubbles are green instead of blue, there’s no way to leave the chat.  You’ll simply need to delete the chat from your phone and hope you don’t get any new messages.

To delete the chat thread from your phone, head into your Messages app, find the chat, swipe to the left, and tap on the garbage can icon.

If you’re in a group chat with other iPhone users, you can leave a group chat in a matter of seconds.

How to Leave a Group Chat on iPhone

If you decide you want to leave a group chat with friends, family, or random strangers, follow these steps on your iPhone:

  • Open up the Messages app.
  • Tap on the Group Chat thread you wish to leave.
  • At the top of the screen, tap where you see the name of the Group Chat (if there is one) or where you see the other users in the chat. Their photos are in little circles.
  • On the next screen, look for the bright red text that says “Leave this Conversation.” Tap that.

You’ll then need to confirm that you want to leave. Do so and you will then be removed from that chat. Do note that other users can invite you back in and you can simply perform the same steps in order to leave.
