Acer Iconia Tab A500 Now Available Through Best Buy

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 Android 3.0 Honeycomb is now available through retailer Best Buy in the U.S. for the price of $450, making it one of the more affordable Honeycomb tablets on the market today. The dual-core Tegra 2-powered slate is cheaper than the $600 price tag of the WiFi-only Motorola Xoom; however, unlike the 32 GB of built-in storage, the Iconia Tab A500 will come with 16 GB of storage and will support a memory card for an additional 32 GB of optional memory.

The WiFi-only slate is available through Best Buy and users can either check to see if their local Best Buy location stocks the tablet or order it through the retailer’s webpage.

At CES earlier this year, Acer also announced a 3G variant of the Iconia Tab A500 for AT&T’s network for those requiring built-in mobile broadband connectivity. The model that’s currently available via Best Buy is the WiFi-only model.

DO NOT buy this yet. I bought it and there’s a BUG in the browser. The toolbar is missing, so you can’t bookmark or see bookmarks … I’ve raised the issue with Acer Support, but I’ve got to call level 2 tomorrow to get them to look at it. Wasn’t too impressed with support. If you want a copy of my screenshots and further info, contact me at [email protected]

This thing looks physically beautiful. Unfortunately, the Best Buy I went to put this over in the ghetto section of their store next to a Xoom and decided to leave the battery discharged. Meanwhile, the iPad 2 is gleeming at a kiosk corner with a spotlight, dancing girls, and plates of free chocolate chip cookies. And people wonder why initial sales of Honeycomb tablets didn’t go so well.
