Analyst: 6.5 Million Galaxy S III Sold in Q2

JP Morgan analysts are estimating that Samsung may have sold approximately 6.5 million Galaxy S III smartphones in the second quarter. Sales in the smartphone are expected to pick up and it is estimated that Samsung will move an additional 15 million units between July and September and will have a combined Q2 and Q3 sales of over 20 million units according to a post published on Know Your Mobile.

While the Galaxy S III is Samsung’s flagship Android smartphone, the South Korean smartphone maker also has a number of other smartphones in its Galaxy lineup. Analysts are estimating that with sales of the Galaxy S III, Samsung may have moved 50 million smartphones total in the second quarter.

The Galaxy S III is available on all four major U.S. carriers and in Europe. Internationally, the device launched with a quad-core Exynos processor, but in the US., the phone features a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and 4G connectivity to the fastest HSPA+ and/or LTE networks. The device comes with an HD Super AMOLED display that has a resolution of 720p, 2 GB of RAM (U.S.), 1080p HD video encoding and an 8-megapixel rear camera, removable battery, NFC, and a micro SD memory card slot.

The device is among one of the most popular smartphones today rivaling HTC’s One X series and Apple’s iPhone.

In the U.S., the launch for the Galaxy S III was a little shaky to begin with. All four major U.S. carriers experienced some sort of delay or shortage at launch with the device, and Samsung did not clarify the situation. However, it looks like everything is on track. It’s also good to know that Samsung is being proactive with the Galaxy S III to keep the device on store shelves. Following Apple’s win of a lawsuit that saw a temporary ban of the Galaxy Nexus, Samsung had quietly and quickly updated some of its Galaxy S III smartphones to remove the potentially infringing Universal Search feature to appease Apple and ensure that the Galaxy S III does not undergo a similar ban.
