The long-awaited Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean release date has been pegged for the middle of February as Google is reportedly testing the update internally, preparing it for a release to Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 10 owners who are experiencing issues with Google’s latest version of the software.
Back in January, we saw Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, the presumed last update before Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, emerge on a Nexus 4 on video. The appearance gave no indication of an impending release date but its lack of features did seem to hint at a massive bug fix update, much larger than the Android 4.2.1 update which only tackled the December bug from Android 4.2.
Owners of the Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and in particular the Nexus 7, who have been experiencing issues since November, have been looking for this update to arrive and it looks like that arrival could come soon.
According to a report from International Business Times, the Android 4.2.2 update could arrive at some point between mid-February and mid-March. That’s quite a bit of a window but the main thing is that the update is supposedly rolling out in the next few weeks.
Release dates for Android updates can often change so there is no guarantee that this timeline will for out for Nexus 4, Nexus 10, Nexus 10 and Galaxy Nexus owners.
The update is supposedly going to be a bug fix update, not a big surprise, and hopefully it will tackle many of the issues that have been plaguing Nexus owners including poor battery life, slow charging, sluggish UI, and more. Google has yet to confirm anything so we likely won’t know what fixes are on board until the firmware itself arrives at some point in the future.
With Google expected to announced Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie at Google I/O in May, the timing for this Jelly Bean update makes quite a bit of sense as the company will want to prepare these devices for Android 5.0’s supposed arrival.
