Android 4.3 Update Predictions: Galaxy S3 & Galaxy Note 2

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update roll out has begun though it still hasn’t reached the United States. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update still hasn’t rolled out anywhere but it’s thought to be landing sometime this month. Ahead of these roll outs, we offer up our best guesses about both updates and their arrivals.

For several weeks now, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 have been under the microscope thanks to rumors and announcements that have been swirling around Samsung’s former flagships. In September, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean rumors started swirling and last month, we finally saw Samsung confirm the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 updates for arrival, updates that will breathe new life into the aging smartphones.

Thing is, Samsung failed to deliver any kind of time frame in regard to the release dates. Instead, the only official announcement we’ve seen in the United States was from U.S. Cellular who claimed that it would be rolling out the updates in the coming weeks. So, for the past few weeks, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 owners in the U.S. and elsewhere have been on pins and needles, waiting for these roll outs.

Earlier this week, we saw the Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update start rolling out in Europe. Since then, we haven’t seen anything else emerge. No Galaxy S3 updates in the United States and no Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates anywhere. And while we have some rumored dates, they lost some of their credibility earlier this week.

So, while we know that the updates are on the way, we still aren’t sure when carriers in the United States will roll their updates out and we don’t expect them to make any official announcements ahead of time. Instead, users have to rely on history, leaks and gut feelings about the updates. Here, we offer up our own gut feelings about the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean roll outs ahead of their arrivals in the U.S.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Roll Out Soon

Last month, we saw an update timeline leak to the surface, a timeline that offered Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners a look at what to expect from their release dates. While the Galaxy S4 dates have been dead on thus far, we’re currently batting zero percent when it comes to the Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean timeline.

The Sprint Galaxy S3 was thought to be getting the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update on Wednesday, November 6th. We assumed that this would pan out given the accuracy of the Galaxy S4 updates and given that the Galaxy S3 roll out, as expected, began away from the U.S. earlier this week. For whatever reason, Wednesday came and went without an update but that doesn’t mean that an update is far away.

In fact, we fully expect the Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean roll out to hit the United States very soon. If we had to guess, we would be shocked if we didn’t see it begin before the end of next week. We’re close and that’s pretty much all Galaxy S3 owners need to know.

Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 Update in Late November

As for the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 update, we expect it to start arriving after the Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 update arrives. At the moment, late November is looking good for the beginning of the roll out, the schedule points to November 20th as the first day of roll outs, and we can’t argue with that. Remember, the international roll out is going to be a good gauge for the U.S. roll out as it typically takes a few days for U.S. variants to get their upgrade.

December could bring the Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 update release in some regions, with Galaxy Note 3 features.

In addition, carriers are going to want to get these updates out before or right around Black Friday, November 29th. Why? Simple, they want to sell the Galaxy Gear accessory to Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 owners. Right now, the accessory is useless to them. So, we would be shocked if we didn’t see at least a couple of roll outs land before the 29th.

Sprint: First to Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2 Updates

The Sprint Galaxy S3 was rumored to be the first to Android 4.3 though that has been put into doubt by this week’s release date miss. That said, we still expect Sprint to be first to the Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 upgrade. Same goes for the Galaxy Note 2. Right now, it’s rumored to be getting the software on November 20th alongside AT&T and while we can’t say if that date will hold, we should still see Sprint be the first, or among the first, to both of these updates.

Sprint has been doing a fantastic job of getting updates out in a swift manner, the most recent being the Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 update that beat the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and users should look for that trend to continue here with the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 as well as into 2014.

Several Other Release Date Misses

We’ve already seen the Sprint Galaxy S3 update miss its rumored release date and we have a feeling that it’s not going to be the last roll out that the chart fails to predict. Software updates are notorious for missing their time lines, whether it’s due to additional testing or something else, so we’re not surprised that we’ve already seen one piece of software miss an intended roll out date.

Expect an improved camera with supporting software.

Will we see this schedule accurately predict some of these release dates? Absolutely, it has already been correct about two Galaxy S4 updates. But will it be perfect? Absolutely not. We don’t expect to see massive delays but we wouldn’t be shocked to see dates slip a few days.

Roll Outs Completed by Mid-December

The last update on that leaked schedule is the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.3 update which is supposed to arrive on December 2nd. Updates typically take a week or so to complete so we expect all of these updates to be completed by the middle of December.

As we’ve pointed out, these carriers aren’t updating these devices quickly out of the goodness of their hearts. Instead, they are trying to make the Galaxy Gear, a $299 device, more appealing for the holidays. So, we would be shocked to see these roll outs occur, and finish, after the middle of the month.

Minimal Issues

Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners will run into some issues, there are always issues with software updates. However, we expect there to be fewer issues than normal thanks to the amount of time that Samsung has had to work on these updates. There will always be complaints about battery drain and UI sluggishness but we expect these updates to be, for the most part, stable.

Note 2 would be never on At&t if you want upgrade buy an IPhone. Google can’t even keep the nexus 10 up to date.

Bullshit. Why is this website still making predictions? Go do something else with your time instead of wasting our time. fortunately for this shitty website they tricked everyone into coming to these bogus articles so they could get their traffic up! Way to be shitty! Unfortunately for the people who came, we have been blindly lead off a bridge by these false accusations. Never waste your time coming back to this garbage, lying website!

The update for the S4 sucks! Now, my music player just randomly starts playing. wasting my battery life for no reason. And not cool, when you’re in a meeting and the music starts to go off. WTF?!?!?!?!

Actually I’ve been using the Galaxy Gear on my 4.1.2 Galaxy Note 2 for a while now, you just need the right version of Gear Manager. Not all functions work but you can make and receive phone calls, calendar events sync, photos and video transfers to the phone fine. Still not so patiently waiting for 4.3
