Android 6.0 vs Android 5.1 Lollipop: What’s New in Marshmallow

Android 5.1 vs Android 6: App Tray

Android 5.1 vs Android 6: App Tray

With Android 6.0 the application tray or drawer has been changed yet again. It's different on phones than it is on tablets, and you'll immediately see the changes in our screenshot. Instead of flipping through horizontal pages Google's gone back to one huge vertical scrolling list.

Apps are still listed alphabetically but there is now a dedicated row of the top four most recent launched apps on the top. This is for easy access to recently used apps, and the ones you use the most will start populating there more often as Android 6.0 learns from the user. There's also a search bar to easily search for an app. Start typing the name, and it will remove all icons and show relative apps for easy access and opening.

From the homescreen, a long press of the application tray button will instantly open the app tray, and the keyboard, for quick searching for whatever app you're looking for. Making opening apps easier and quicker. You can even search with your voice for better hands-free integration.

To be clear, in the new permissions model rogue apps can still access the internet, they just can’t access any of your data so what they can do with the internet access is severely limited.

Now on tap removed the very useful ability to select what search provider you wanted to perform searches with. I really liked being able to set the swipe-up command to be “perform a search with DuckDuckGo” and now that is gone :(

90% of everything you said about visual changes was wrong and every one of these are absolutely NOT new to Android M.
Lollipop does indeed use vertical scrolling in both the app tray and widgets. I am on Android 5.1 on a 2015 Moto E and both the apps and widgets menu look exactly like M.

Vertical scrolling is not new. Top row of apps showing recently used is not new. Vertical widget menu is not new either

Is the inability to “save image” from facebook to decice, a problem for Marshmallow6.0 or is that something different. Me and my wife each, just got the lgg4. Mine allows me to “save picture” to the devise. My wife’s phone will not save picture at all. Anyone know why? Also, I have turned off all notifications sounds from facebook, but we can not do the same for her phone.

    • Steven Stone

      07/01/2016 at 7:38 pm

My Samsung Galaxy S7 running Android M 6.0.1 has no problem with saving images from Facebook. Maybe you need to uninstall Facebook and then reinstall it.

All this talk and no answer to my question. WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO ACTUALLY START DOING THEUR JOBS. I DIDINT ASK FOR A COMPARISON. I ASKED IF LOSING THE ABILITY TO “SAVE PICTURE” IS A STANDARD IN 6.0 OR IS THERE A FLAW.

Sorry, but Marshmallow is a disaster on my phone (Moto E 2nd Gen). If there was any way to change back, I’d do it in a heartbeat. It didn’t need changing and it’s made my phone a nightmare to use. Can’t find some things, others not working right. Wish that people would stop messing.

For me android 5 is easier to use for making calls. Flip and favorites dial. Google just want to make money and having reached near monopoly status, is less concerned with ease of use. It would have been easy to put a phone icon in the middle of the left hand side of the phone for people who want to use a phone.

Has anyone else had a problem downloading a picture from messages, while on the phone? My S5 would allow me to do this but my lgg4 on marshmallo will not. Any suggestions?

NOT !!! gonna stay with Lollipop 5.0, I had enough issues and problems with that “upgrade” from KitKat.
I’ll wait until all the damn bugs are worked out and they release 6.1.1 THEN AND ONLY THEN will I update.

It seems that on the Verizon Note 4, either Verizon or Samsung has replaced some things with custom (if similar) versions, which were not updated with Marshmallow. For example, in the notification tray, holding the Settings gear doesn’t do anything – I held it for over 15 seconds and still didn’t get the UI Tuner. Also, the Apps drawer still has horizontal pages, and the lock screen still has the dialer rather than the voice icon, and the volume sliders are unchanged.

Root your Galaxy / Mota G 2nd to 3rd Gen Android 5.1.1, you will need to flash a custom kernel on top of regular root method, otherwise you may end up in a bootloop. This is because Samsung and Mota G has updated Android 5.1.1 with root block and the only way to get around it is to install custom kernel before installing SuperSU >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>…… https://www.techyhum.com/root-note-4-note-edge-android-5-1-1/

Just got a new cheap unlocked Alcatel Idol 3 4.7″ smartphone that came with Android 5.1. I upgraded it to Android 6.0.1 within the first 5 minutes of turning it on for the first time. I was surprised Alcatel had the update for it already. I’d rather have a better phone, but there are limited choices with smaller phones.

Either way, in case you are hiding something from your spouse
and getting too all-around somebody else
in the opposite gender, then you certainly likely realize
that you’re doing something wrong. But you can deal
with your feelings and emotions to enable you to visit terms with what has happened and move on. A man can have from zero

These websites are simple to access, and all you have to do is build and finish your profile.
The idea is the fact that while you’re enjoying themselves
you’re also meeting people. You will surely miss the whole attention on yourself as soon as you realize how enlightening it may be.
