Ahead of Christmas, a report surfaced online claiming that Apple will be redesigning the larger 9.7-inch iPad with Retina Display for a new release in March 2013, or roughly half a year since the fourth generation iPad was introduced, which itself made a debut some six months after the third generation iPad with incremental changes. The report says that the new iPad, dubbed the fifth generation tablet, will be thinner and lighter than the model that was currently released. Additionally, the tablet will use design elements introduced on the iPad mini and the latest iPhone 5, according to Macotakara.
According to my inside source, iPad(5th) may be released in March, 2013. Source told that, design of this new iPad will be like iPad mini in detail, and be thinner and lightweight. (The expectation comes to have a small 4mm in height, 17mm in width, depth 2mm).
It’s unclear if Apple will be switching back its tablet’s introductions to the Spring timeline. For the first three generations of iPad tablets, Apple made the introduction in Spring, but opted for a later year introduction of the current fourth generation model. That model was introduced alongside the iPad mini and brought fourth the company’s new Lightning charge and sync standard to market and the introduction of the fourth generation iPad in Fall made the third-generation iPad one of the most short lived models in Apple’s tablet history with its half-year life span.
It’s also believed that the specs quoted above may mean that the new tablet would shave 4mm from the height, 17mm from the width and 2mm from the depth, rather than have these paltry measurements indicate the measurements of the tablet itself. Shaving 2mm from the depth would mean that the Retina iPad would achieve the same thinness as the iPad mini and Apple would likely want to shave down the bezel space of the larger tablet to make it match the iPad mini.
In terms of the iPad mini, the site is reporting that Apple would likely introduce a second generation successor with a Retina Display in the same form factor.
It looks like Apple is beginning to be more aggressive with the release timeline of its tablets. In the past, the iPad tablets were given annual refreshes, guaranteeing them at least a year of shelf life.
