AT&T Galaxy S2 Update Rolls Out, Isn’t Jelly Bean

The AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 is receiving an update today however, it doesn’t appear to be the long-awaited upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, an update that rolled out to owners of the Sprint Galaxy S2 yesterday.

According to owners of the Samsung Galaxy S2 on XDA-Developers Forums, a small update is rolling out to AT&T Galaxy S2 owners that are running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the most current version of Android for the Galaxy S2. However, despite the Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update reaching consumers in the U.S., AT&T’s update doesn’t appear to be Android 4.1. Instead, it’s much smaller.

Evidently, according to numerous users, the update keeps the device on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich instead of bringing it to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The update is I777UCLL6 and it appears to be a tiny update, perhaps aimed at stopping some sleep of death issues wherein the Galaxy S2 would abruptly shut off while sitting idle.

Despite the fix, owners are frustrated that it’s not the Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update that arrived yesterday in the United States. Sprint became the first carrier to offer the Galaxy S2 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in the United States, following in the footsteps of other roll outs around the world including carriers on Canada.

Thus far, AT&T has not yet commented on any timing for the Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean upgrade and it could be several weeks, possibly even months, before we see the carrier roll out its version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

And while AT&T hasn’t confirmed anything, the fact that it rolled out to Sprint’s version of the device is at least a sign that other carriers will likely follow suit at some point.

In the meantime, owners of the AT&T Galaxy S2 on Android 4.0 will want to check their device settings for the new, smaller update.

It is compelely accurate. The update was so small it did not change the 4.0.4 version number. There was an update today.
