A few of the big apps missing from Windows Phone are finally coming to the platform.
During its Windows Phone 8 announcement, Microsoft announced that key apps like Audible, Words With Friends, and NOVA 3 will finally come to the platform.
One of those apps, Audible, is actually available in the Windows Phone Marketplace right now for all devices. The app lets users listen to audiobooks from the Amazon-owned service, and gives users some audiobook-specific features like bookmarks and speed options. The app also makes it easy to download the audiobooks without syncing the device to a desktop or laptop.
Popular Zynga games like Words With Friends and Draw Something are also coming to Windows Phone sometime soon. We don’t know when the apps will arrive on the platform, we just know that soon Windows Phone users will be able to play the word and drawing games against their friends with iOS and Android devices.
According to The Verge, Microsoft also showed Gameloft games like NOVA 3 and Asphalt 7 running on Windows Phone 8 devices. Gameloft does have a few Windows Phone games available now, though the platform doesn’t have its more graphically-intense just yet. Again, we don’t know when NOVA 3 and Asphalt 7 will make it into the Marketplace, but we can’t wait to see how well the perform on Windows Phone.
It looks like Microsoft is succeeding in its quest to draw more big developers into Windows Phone, we just have to wait and see if the companies follow through. A few games are great, but Microsoft needs the companies to release new games on the platform in a timely manner. We’re still waiting for Rovio’s latest game, Angry Birds Space, to land on Windows Phone.
