Another excellent overall phone that's surprisingly very affordable is the LG G7 ThinQ. It got announced and released shortly after the Galaxy S9, packs all the latest bells, whistles and technology a new phone should, yet it's down to under $500.
Honestly, the LG G7 is a pretty great phone for the money.
You're getting a beautiful 6.1-inch Quad-HD display, a powerful 8-core Snapdragon 845 processor (same as the Galaxy Note 9) along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. LG also offers a micro-SD slot for storage expansion, a 3.5mm headphone jack, wireless charging, IP68 dust and water-resistance, and a premium metal and glass design.
The LG G7 has one of the loudest "boomsound" speakers we've ever heard on a phone, a built-in quad-DAC for improved audio, and two highly capable cameras on the back. A main 16MP lens and a secondary super wide-angle lens for fun landscape photography. The only potential downside is the small 3,000 mAh battery and slow software updates, as it's still running Android 8 Oreo.
