The Droid RAZR is just months old, but Motorola has already seen fit to introduce another mmber to the RAZR family, the Droid RAZR MAXX.
The Droid RAZR (review) was known for a super thin design and Kevlar back, but it lacked in the battery life department. We saw 11-12 hours of battery life in our Droid RAZR review, which was decent, but it left many heavy users wanting more.
The Droid RAZR MAXX doubles the battery of the Droid RAZR, up to 3300mAh. This is a major jump in battery power, and cetainly a worthwhile upgrade — even if it is a cut to the original RAZR owners.
The Droid RAZR MAXX is available form Verizon today for $299 on contract or $649 without a contract. You can also purchase the RAZR MAXX at Amazon for $199 (New Customers) or $229 (Existing Customers eligible for an upgrade).
Droid RAZR MAXX Unboxing & Hands On Video
As you can see, the Droid RAZR MAXX looks practically the same as the Droid RAZR. Having held both the RAZR and RAZR MAXX, there is a slight difference in thickness and weight, but it is more than acceptable given the extended battery life.
The Droid RAZR MAXX is technically thinner than the iPhone 4S, but as you can see in the video above, the devices are so close it isn’t a major issue.
That’s the real sell here. Motorola was able to deliver a huge battery in a thin and attractive looking package. Thanks to numerous software battery enhancements, consumers have a long lasting 4G LTE option.
I’m currently working my way through the battery on the Droid RAZR MAXX, so I will be able to share more about how well it keeps a charge on Monday, but so far I am impressed with the size of the device and the meager battery use since I unboxed it this afternoon.
