Today, we’re getting a look at the brand new unreleased Motorola DROID Turbo smartphone for Verizon Wireless well ahead of the release date, announcement, or any other confirmations. The smartphone has been rumored for months, but today an official Verizon twitter account leaked the photo well ahead of the DROID Turbo release date.

Rumors and leaks have hinted at a new smartphone coming soon for Verizon Wireless called the Motorola DROID Turbo, and after the entire user manual revealed all the key features earlier this week, today we’re seeing our first official press photo.

Just like the past few years, Verizon Wireless and Motorola have teamed up for a new DROID smartphone, only this year it looks to be the most promising yet. Borrowing features from previous models while improving across the board to be what could be the best smartphone of 2014. Read on for more details, and to see the first official image of the new DROID Turbo.

Following the success of the Motorola DROID RAZR, RAZR HD, MAXX, and then the DROID Ultra from 2013, a new DROID Turbo is expected to debut sometime in October for Verizon Wireless with some rather impressive specs and top-tier features.

Last last month a few key leaks surfaced that revealed many of the specs and features of this upcoming smartphone, but this weeks user manual that leaked confirmed an impressive 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD display and a 21 megapixel camera on the back. Making this one impressive sounding smartphone.

The image above was brought to us by the official (Verizon operated) @DroidLanding Twitter account. An account used to hype up previous DROID smartphones, do giveaways, and share other release details of the smartphone lineup. This morning out of the blue the account posted the picture above with no details, then quickly someone realized this massive mistake and removed the tweet.

No details, comments, or name was attached to the photo which was quickly removed but it’s safe to say this is the highly rumored DROID Turbo. The image above came from the leaked user manual.

So what can buyers expect from this smartphone? A lot actually. The Turbo in the name stands for a few things. One being the powerful quad-core processor under the hood, and the second being the Turbo charging abilities on board. Along with the Motorola Turbo charger, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon Quick Charge 2.0 technology inside the device owners can charge the phone up quick. 30 minutes on the charger will provide 8 hours of usage. Impressive right?

The other most impressive aspect of this phone is it will sport a huge 3,900 mAh battery. This is bigger than the 3,000 mAh battery inside the LG G3, and bigger than the DROID Ultra MAXX last year which was the company’s option with a bigger battery and more storage. Previous years they released two identical devices, only one featuring more storage and a bigger battery, but we’re hearing the DROID Turbo will be the one and only this year. That said, this is a red model and could be the improved Turbo MAXX, while the 3,500 mAh battery rumors and black model could be the regular release. We’ll have to wait and see. Here’s the full rumored specs.

DROID Turbo Specs

  • 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD display
  • 2.7 GHz Snapdragon 805 Quad-core processor with 3GB of RAM
  • 32GB storage
  • Android 4.4.4 KitKat (nearly stock)
  • 21 Megapixel Rear and 2.1 front camera setup
  • 4k video recording
  • Front facing speaker
  • 3,900 mAh battery (rumored) (earlier reports stated 3,500)
  • more

Details provided above come from some leaked benchmark results, tipsters, as well as the official user manual that arrived earlier this week. An earlier rumor claimed it would have a 3,500 mAh battery, but no one will complain if it comes in at nearly 4,000 either. As that will ensure at least two days of heavy usage, and 3-4 for light users.

A few other sources claim it will feature wireless charging and a IP67 dust and water-resistant certification like the Galaxy S5, but with no flaps covering the important ports like the micro-USB charger, we’re not so sure those rumors are accurate. We’ll have to wait and see.

Last but not least, rumor has it Verizon and Motorola will announce the all-new DROID Turbo before the end of October, and possibly release it this month as well. With the @DROIDLanding Twitter account firing up and details leaking almost daily, it’s safe to assume an announcement and release date is near.
