When Apple unveiled the new iPad, Epic Games came on stage to show off its new iOS game, Infinity Blade Dungeons. We still don’t know when the game will come out, but a new trailer shows off more of the game.
The trailer comes from Joystiq with some new information about the game coming from IGN. The new Infinity Blade Dungeons isn’t a typical Infinity Blade game. Instead of individual sword fights that play out like a medieval Punch-Out, Dungeons goes for the Diablo-esque dungeon crawler genre.
The new trailer shows players guiding the character through a dungeon fighting enemies that range from a strange bear in armor to ice elementals. The trailer also shows the new weapon crafting mini-game which is the only way to get new weapons in the game. Crafting weapons is a huge part of the game, as the story of Dungeons is the forging of the Infinity Blade, the namesake of the series.
As the name implies, Infinity Blade Dungeons will have a series of dungeons to play through, each designed to take only five to eight minutes, perfect for quick mobile gaming. Each dungeons contains loot including armor for the main character and materials for crafting new weapons.
While running through the dungeon, players slash across enemies to attack them, using gestures to perform special attacks and magic. From the trailer, the game looks like a toned-down version of Diablo. There’s some strategy to figuring out the perfect special attack to use against each enemy at the perfect time, but we doubt the game will have as many skills and spells as Blizzard’s new Diablo III.
Unfortunately Epic Games won’t say when Infinity Blade Dungeons will hit the App Store, saying only that it will be sometime “this year.” We hope we don’t have to wait too long, the game looks like a lot of fun.
