Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S Next in Line for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

It would appear that the Motorola Xoom Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is extremely close to rolling out which means that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S should be the next in line for the upgrade to Google’s latest Android software.

Over the weekend, owners of the Motorola Xoom were notified about a software test that is scheduled to take place for the Android tablet. We assume that this update is going to be the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update that Google promised for the Motorola Xoom back during the beginning of July.

Motorola has not confirmed this, but because the Xoom is not affiliated with a carrier, it’s the Wi-Fi version that’s getting the update and not the Verizon Motorola Xoom, the arrival of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean this early would not be surprising.

We haven’t heard of any other updates coming for the Motorola Xoom, especially ones that need user testing, so it would appear that a roll out of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean should indeed be coming soon for Xoom owners.

So, from here, it means that Galaxy Nexus and Nexus owners will be the next in line for the update.

Google promised that the Nexus S and all Galaxy Nexus devices would be apart of the first devices to see the upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, though, no specific release dates or time lines have leaked out as of yet.

However, now that it appears that the Motorola Xoom roll out is close, we expect to hear something in regards to the Android 4.1 updates in the near future.

It’s unclear whether Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is on the horizon for either the Sprint or Verizon Galaxy Nexus though Google’s wording of “all Galaxy Nexus” seems to hint at that being the case.

Currently, the only two Android devices with the update on board are the Nexus 7 tablet and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ which is available directly through Google’s Google Play Store.

So, once the Motorola Xoom Jelly Bean update rolls out, something that looks like it will take place soon, the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus updates should be next in line.

We’ll be keeping an eye out.

In the meantime, those that don’t wish to wait can download the leaked version of Android 4.1, though, it’s probably not the final version of the software.

It’s not very clear from the article that it’s the Verizon GNex being talked about. Thanks for the clarification.

My understanding is the Jelly Bean OTA for GSM Nexuses was not available until yesterday. I forced it via WiFi Saturday morning.

The way you can force it is by going in to settings, apps, hit the all tab, look for Google framework, clear the data, force stop, reboot, and go in to settings, about phone, and check and see if it’s waiting. The steps might have to be a few times but it’s worked for many . Mine came by notification Wednesday night.
