Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 Update Missing as Updates Continue

The Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has received two major updates before Verizon has been able to deliver one big one (Android 4.4 KitKat) to its version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

All the way back in January, Samsung started pushing out the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update to users. In typical Samsung fashion, the roll out began at a slow pace before picking up in the weeks after its initial arrival. In February especially, we saw a number of devices receive the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade including both the Sprint and U.S. Cellular versions of the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update.

Sprint’s Galaxy Note 3 update arrived with some solid features but it was missing one of the key features that landed for Sprint’s Galaxy S4 mini and Galaxy Mega back in February. Both devices received updates that installed Wi-Fi capabilities on board, something that allows users to send text messages and make phone calls over their Wi-Fi network.

Today, Sprint brings its Galaxy Note 3 up to speed and delivered a new version of software, N900PVPUCNC5, that brings the Wi-Fi calling feature to owners of the 5.7-inch phablet. That’s all that Sprint lists on the change log and so it appears that Wi-Fi calling is all Galaxy Note 3 owners on Sprint are going to get from this new Android 4.4.2 build.

Sprint says that the roll out will be deployed in stages which means that while some Galaxy Note 3 owners will be able to take advantage of Wi-Fi calling today, others will have to wait a few days for the software to roll out. Due to its size, we suspect that the update will only take a few days or so to complete.

The arrival of this update means that Sprint has now deployed two key Android 4.4 KitKat update builds before Verizon has been able to roll out one. The Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update remains missing in action and its officially the last Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update yet to hit the United States. Sprint and U.S. Cellular were joined by T-Mobile and AT&T last month.

Verizon has yet to issue any definitive details to Galaxy Note 3 users and we expect that owners will have to wait for its release date in the dark.

When the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 update does arrive, it should be a fairly substantial update. Not only will it have Android 4.4 KitKat features on board, but we expect Verizon to include its own fixes and enhancements, just like its rivals did with their own versions of the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat update.

update has been in testing over a month for verizon, may see it in two – six weeks per testing period by carrier unless they sent it back for major changes. i asked support tech from verizon few weeks ago.

The manufacturer gives them the update way in advance. Then verizon bloats up the stock android. It’s all crap. If you want a phone that will see its so called promised updates wait the the Google play edition of the phones you want.
