Galaxy Note 5 Release: 5 Things to Expect in August

Published

on

Samsung’s all but confirmed the arrival of its new flagship smartphone, a device that’s currently known as Galaxy Note 5. With an Unpacked event set for next week, and still rumors flying around, we want to set the stage and take a look at a few things you should expect from the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and its release in August.

For the past four years, Samsung’s used Berlin’s IFA trade show to announce its Galaxy Note, a flagship smartphone that it pairs with its flagship Galaxy S. Last year, the Galaxy Note 4 joined the Galaxy S5 on shelves. And this year, Samsung’s next Galaxy Note will join the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Only, it seems that will be happening much sooner than we once thought.

As we’ve made our way into the summer, we’ve begun to see and hear tons of different details about a device that’s currently dubbed Samsung Galaxy Note 5. The “5” stems from the fact that this year’s model will be the fifth-generation Galaxy Note. Samsung’s been doing this big screen thing for awhile.

We’ve heard about the Galaxy Note 5 specs, we’ve heard about the Galaxy Note 5 launch date and we’ve heard about the Galaxy Note 5 release date. Nothing is confirmed but it looks like we have about a week to go before the Galaxy Note 5’s arrival.

Samsung’s scheduled an Unpacked event for August 13th in New York City and all signs point to it being the Galaxy Note 5 launch date. Samsung’s teasers have confirmed that it will center around the new Galaxy Note so now all we have to do is wait for an announcement.

While we wait, we want to take a look at a few things to expect from Samsung and Galaxy Note 5 release date. If you’re looking into the Galaxy Note 5, this will help set your expectations ahead of Samsung’s big launch date next week.

The Most Important Details

The first thing that you should expect from the Galaxy Note 5 release this month is for Samsung to outline most, if not all of the Galaxy Note 5 details at its launch event next week.

This is an unprecedented launch. Samsung’s launched the Galaxy Note in August before but never this early. And by launching this early it’s clear, at least to us, that it’s trying to get a head start on Apple and the iPhone 6s that’s rumored for September.

Note-5-9

With it trying to beat Apple and the iPhone 6s, we can’t see the company holding much back. We expect it to outline specs, in detail, on August 13th. We expect it to announce specific release date details for regions around the world. We expect it to outline storage, pricing, and colors. Anything less than a full reveal will put the ball firmly in Apple’s court.

If you tune into Samsung’s live stream next week, expect the company to put it all out there. With sales sagging, it doesn’t have much to lose.

Galaxy Note 5 Release Date

At this point, it’s safe to assume that the first Samsung Galaxy Note 5 release date will land in August. Rumors have pointed to an arrival on August 21st and we’ve already seen a number of Galaxy Note 5 variants, for the U.S. and otherwise, pass through the FCC.

Do we expect every single country and carrier to get the Galaxy Note 5 on day one? No. There are already rumors that Russia could get the Galaxy Note 5 much later than everyone else. We’ve also never seen Samsung release a device in every single region on day one.

Note-5-2

Instead, we expect a number of key markets like South Korea, Japan and China to get the Galaxy Note 5 in and around its first release date which, again, should be August 21st. We wouldn’t be surprised if smaller markets and financially less important markets got the Galaxy Note 5 a little later.

We would, however, expect most places to have the Galaxy Note 5 on shelves around the time that Apple releases the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

U.S. Galaxy Note 5 Release Details

We still aren’t sure when the U.S. Galaxy Note 5 release date will take place. We’ve seen FCC filings for the AT&T, Sprint and Verizon models hint at an early release but nothing is confirmed. At this point, we’d expect two things from the U.S. Galaxy Note 5 release.

First, we’d expect to see U.S. carriers and retailers confirm plans to release the Galaxy Note 5 on August 13th. This includes AT&T, Sprint and Verizon and we’d be surprised if the Galaxy Note 5 skipped T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular. T-Mobile, after all, is the nation’s third largest carrier. We’d expect U.S. carriers to lay out their Galaxy Note 5 plans, in detail, next week.

We also expect the U.S. Galaxy Note 5 release date to come within a reasonable amount of time. Our best guess at this point is that U.S. carriers will release the Galaxy Note 5 in late August so that they can put some space between the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and the iPhone 6s.

Carriers like Verizon are well known for putting a few weeks of space between big name smartphone releases. We can’t see Verizon or anyone else pushing the Galaxy Note 5 release into mid-or-late September. Especially now that we know retailers like Costco are preparing for the Galaxy Note 5’s arrival.

We’re expecting an August Galaxy Note 5 release date in the United States. At least for some carriers. Anything else would be surprising.

Galaxy Note 5 Pre-Orders

We’d expect Samsung Galaxy Note 5 pre-orders at retailers and carriers in the U.S. and around the world.

We haven’t heard anything concrete but Android flagships always go up for pre-order ahead of their release date. And with the Galaxy Note 5 release date heavily rumored for August 21st, we’d expect the Galaxy Note 5 pre-orders through some carriers and retailers to happen immediately after the device’s arrival next week.

Note-5-10

We expect there to be a number of different options available to those that are looking to buy ahead of the release date. Flagship Android phones almost always land at a number of retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, and others. Samsung has a very close relationship with Best Buy so at the very least, we’d expect it to be involved.

If U.S. carriers offer pre-orders like we think they will, expect some Galaxy Note 5 pre-orders to arrive on doorsteps ahead of the device’s street date.

(Note: You can already pre-order Galaxy Note 5 accessories.)

Lots of Galaxy Note 5 Accessories

And finally, expect to see tons of Galaxy Note 5 accessories teased, and released, in August. We’ve already seen two sets of Galaxy Note 5 accessories go on sale ahead of its release (Spigen and Urban Armor Gear). They won’t be the only ones.

Note-5

You should expect Samsung to detail Galaxy Note 5 accessories on stage next week and you should expect accessory makers to try and capitalize on the high-profile nature of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

Galaxy Note 5 Launch Date & Live Stream

Galaxy Note 5 Launch Date & Live Stream

First we, and many others, are extremely excited about the fact that the Galaxy Note 5 launch date is expected to take place next week. This is much earlier than usual.

Samsung hasn't called out the device by name just yet but thanks to numerous teasers, including this one from Samsung Philippines, we know that the Galaxy Note 5 is on tap for Samsung's Unpacked launch event on August 13th in New York City.

Even better, Samsung is going to be hosting a live stream of the event which means that you'll be able to follow all of the announcements even if you aren't able to make it out to New York to catch the company's huge announcements.

If you're looking for a new phone, be it the Galaxy Note 5 or something else, this is a date that you should be excited about. This will likely be Samsung's last big event of the year and it should play host to at least three new devices, maybe more.
