The Samsung Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update, which started rolling out to owners in January, has now rolled out to more users, this time in Korea where owners of the Galaxy S2 (SHW-M250K) should now be the beneficiaries of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which will replace Android 4.0 as the device’s operating system.
Towards the end of January, the Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update started rolling out ahead of its rumored February arrival. And while that was exciting news for owners of the aging smartphone, the software was limited to only one region with owners in Spain receiving the update. Samsung typically rolls out its updates in a staggered manner so the fact that the update started slowly was no surprise.
Today though, the update has popped up in another major region as those in Korea sporting the SHW-M250K Galaxy S2 are now reportedly receiving their upgrade to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
The update, which SamMobile claims is rolling out right now, means the Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update is progressing in its roll out, a sign that we’re poised to see the firmware roll out in more regions in the weeks ahead.
Currently, none of the American carriers that host the Galaxy S2 on their networks have confirmed that the update will be heading stateside. And while we certainly expect it to, there is no telling how long AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon will take to roll it out. Often, American carriers are dead last in terms of timing when it comes to major Android upgrades.
Those with the Galaxy S2 in Korea though are now the proud owners of an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, which can be seen in the video below.
And while Android 4.1 is nice, the update also brings the Galaxy S3’s and Galaxy Note 2’s Nature UX interface to the table, something that should be a big improvement over the previous version of TouchWiz.
At the very least, the update should tide Galaxy S2 owners over until their contracts expire this year, just in time for the Samsung Galaxy S4 to touch down on shelves.
