The new Samsung Galaxy S6 release appears to be set for the United Kingdom as a popular retailer has opened up sign ups ahead of the device’s expected March 1st launch date.
As we inch closer to Samsung’s March 1st Unpacked event in Barcelona, Spain, we’re starting to see Galaxy S6 rumors and details spill out of some new and interesting places. Earlier this week, we told you that several Galaxy S6 models had gained approval from the GCF also known as the Global Certification Forum.
Today, the Galaxy S6 popped up somewhere new. Carphone Warehouse, a huge retailer in the United Kingdom, has posted its first Galaxy S6 splash page today ahead of the Unpacked event on March 1st. The sign up page points to a Galaxy S6 release for carriers in the United Kingdom and it also allows interested parties to sign up to obtain information directly from the retailer itself.
Carphone Warehouse isn’t the first company to try and capitalize on the Galaxy S6’s buzz either. We’ve seen accessory makers continue to tease their Galaxy S6 cases ahead of Samsung’s announcement. We’ve also seen Belsimpel post a splash page teasing the arrival of the Galaxy S6 in advance. Vodafone Netherlands used to have a Galaxy S6 splash page up though the carrier has since taken it down. We’ve even seen known Galaxy S6 model numbers emerge on Samsung’s website, a sign that a release should be getting closer.
Slowly but surely, Samsung Galaxy S6 release details are coming together. The Galaxy S6 release is rumored for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon and it’s clear that the device will be heading to several other regions around the world. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 both arrived in over 100 different regions and the apple typically doesn’t fall too far from the tree.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 release date itself remains elusive though we’re starting to see leaks center around a couple of specific windows. The earliest Galaxy S6 release date rumors suggested that the device would arrive two to three weeks earlier than last year’s Galaxy S5 release. The first Galaxy S5 release date arrived in mid-April which would put the Galaxy S6 release in late March or early April.
A more recent leak points to possible blackout dates for Samsung Mobile employees. The document suggests that employees have blacked out vacation days between March 22nd and March 30th and between April 19th and April 27th. Companies often use blackout dates for major product launches and the theory is that these release dates are for the Galaxy S6 and its rumored “Edge” variant.
Galaxy S6 specs will supposedly include a 5.1-inch Quad HD display, Exynos 7 chip from Samsung, a 16MP or 20MP rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization, a 5MP front-facing camera, tons of storage space, Android 5.0 Lollipop featuring a toned down version of the company’s TouchWiz user interface, and more.
Recent Galaxy S6 rumors have focused in on the device’s design which is rumored to be made out of metal. For years, Samsung stuck to its plastic designs before shifting to a combination of metal and plastic on the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Alpha. Both the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge are expected to incorporate premium materials into their design.
While Samsung’s Galaxy S6 release remains out of reach, it’s clear that the big day is approaching. Those interested in the Samsung Galaxy S5 successor would be wise to tune into Samsung’s Unpacked event on March 1st to catch all of the important details.
