Galaxy S9+ vs Galaxy Note 8: Camera

The biggest change in 2018 for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be the camera or cameras. That's because Samsung's brought something completely new to the table.

Samsung introduced an all-new variable aperture camera on these phones. What that means is the aperture can change from f/1.5 to f/2.4 apertures for the best possible photo in any situation, speed, or lighting.

Just like how the human eye adapts to its surroundings, Samsung's camera can do the same thing. A human eye expands at night to capture more light, so we're not blind. In a dark area, the S9 will go from f/2.4 down to f/1.5 to get the best photo with as much light and detail as possible. Then, so you're not blind outdoors around the sun, our eyes shrink back up. Yes, the Galaxy S9+ camera does that too. Giving you a faster shutter speed, more clarity, and a better overall photo. It's pretty neat.

Add in the fact that this is the first Samsung smartphone camera with an f/1.5 aperture lens (Note 8 is f/1.7) you're getting two upgrades at once.

The Galaxy Note 8 has two cameras. One is a f/1.7 aperture, while the secondary camera has a f/2.4 aperture zoom lens. Allowing for close-up photos.

Both of Samsung's Galaxy S9+ cameras do some pretty incredible things. One just has an extra 2x telephoto zoom to get closer to subjects. It's basically a more advanced version of the Note 8. Oh, Samsung's Galaxy S9+ also takes 960 FPS slow-motion video, a video you can edit on the fly right from the phone.

Take your pick.
