If you haven’t already preordered the iPhone 4S you might want to consider Target. They will be partnering with NextWorth to offer trade-in credit if you bring your old iPhone with you. You can go today to a Target store with your old iPhone and they will give you a price that will be guaranteed when you finally buy your iPhone 4S from Target later this week. Also, you can preorder the phone and get first dibs on the early shipments they receive from Apple. With this trade-in, you could potentially get a free iPhone 4S.
The following list of quotes Target gave us are based on the assumption that the old iPhone works and is in good shape:
- iPhone 4 both 16GB and 32GB – $200
- iPhone 3GS 32GB – $120
- iPhone 3GS 16GB – $110
- iPhone 3GS 8GB – $101
Target started offering these trade-ins to compete with other stores like Radio Shack and Best Buy, who also have programs for buying your old device for credit for a new one. This also competes with the the other ways to get some money for your old phone – selling on eBay or trading it in with services like Gazelle. With in-store trade-in programs you get immediate value.
By comparison, an iPhone 4 with 16GB of storage in good working condition at Gazelle only gives you $186. You will get much more at eBay, but will also have to deal with the pain of taking pictures, creating a listing and then waiting for payment from someone. Often eBay buyers will stiff you on the sale, making you relist the phone.
