Gingerbread for Samsung Epic 4G Rolling Out November 9th
In exciting news, it would appear that Sprint’s Samsung Epic 4G, yes, the original Galaxy S device, will be getting the boost up to Android 2.3 Gingerbread starting tomorrow, November 9th. The update will apparently arrive for just around three percent of users tomorrow and if all goes according to plan, it will hit every Epic 4G user within eight days.
A fantastic development for Epic 4G owners who had heard that Gingerbread would be coming but had no idea when it would start to roll out.
Still no official word from Sprint or Samsung but the evidence certainly points to 11/9/11 being the date that the software arrives.
Besides Android 2.3, the update will include:
- Airrave notification fixes
- SMS area code fix
- PRL and Profile update fix
- EAS HTML Tagging fix
- Bluetooth headset quality fix
- Lock screen date fix
And here are the full details:
So, if you’re not part of the initial batch of users that see it tomorrow, don’t fret.
You should see it soon afterwards.

This update is garbage. Now my phone refuses to vibrate on incoming calls or text messages.

No kidding. My phone refuses to stop vibrating when I get a text massage, but only when sound is on.
