Google+ Gets a Slick New iPhone App

Google has updated the Google+ iPhone app that sports a new design that looks much nicer than the old version.

According to Google, the new Google+ 2.0 is an important step towards a “simpler, more beautiful Google.” The new app certainly is more beautiful than the previous version. The basic function of the app is the same, but the stream in the main screen is no longer just text on a white background separated by thin lines.

The new Google+ app makes each post distinct with a new stylized stream. It make each individual post easier to identify, with most posts essentially taking up the full screen.

The option to view streams from only certain circles is still available, but now the option is in a drop down menu at the top of the screen. Swipes are no reserved for looking through photos in the stream and for going back to the stream when viewing a post.

Despite the new design Google still hasn’t yet created an Google+ for iPad app. The new app looks great on the new iPad, however. There’s obviously some pixelation, but it still look great even when pixel-doubled. Like the old Google+ iPhone app, the new app also support Hangouts on the iPad, which makes the iPhone app on the iPad a good substitute for FaceTime or Skype.

Strangely the iPhone app is here before the new Android app. Google says the new Android app is coming soon, however. The Android app will come with “a few extra surprises” to make it worth the wait. We don’t know what those surprises could be, unless Google intends on bringing Hangouts On Air or Hangouts with Extras to the Android app.

Do you know how to reply to a comment from the app? Don’t see any way to do this.
