Cobley addressed the Nexus 4 supply issues after a post about Google Zeitgeist 2012 saw a large number of comments from people complaining about the Nexus 4. Many of those users ordered the phone with an expected shipping date of 3-5 days, but still hadn’t received their phones more than a week later.
Cobley said in the original G+ post “supplies from the manufacturer are scarce … and our communication has been flawed.” To rectify the issues Cobley plans to refund the shipping cost of everyone who bought the phone expecting it to ship in 3-5 days.
Cobley’s full post reads:
I know that what you are going through is unacceptable and we are all working through the nights and weekends to resolve this issue. Supplies from the manufacturer are scarce, and our communication has been flawed. I can offer an unreserved apology for our service and communication failures in this process.
For those that originally received a 3-5 days shipping estimate, your orders are now in process for fulfillment. You can expect an email notification early this week which will include tracking information. Although you will be initially charged in full, you will receive a credit for the shipping charge soon after.
For others that received pre-Christmas shipping estimates, we anticipate processing your orders for fulfillment this week.
I realise that the people who ordered the Nexus 4 so early are among our most committed and loyal users and we are doing all we can to put things right.
Google also has issues keeping stock of the Nexus 4 in the U.S. Google’s Play Store sold out of the Nexus 4 in the U.S. this past weekend. Before then the phone’s shipping time fluctuated between 4.6 weeks and 6-8 weeks. Now Google lists both storage options of the phone as sold out. T-Mobile, the only U.S. carrier to offer the Nexus 4, also lists the phone as out of stock.
