Published

on

In this quick guide we’ll show you how to change the Galaxy Note 9 navigation bar colors and on-screen buttons. Whether that’s which side the back button is on, or something else. With no physical home button, all the controls are on the screen, and they’re easily customizable.

You can easily change the navigation bar button order, colors, and even the background color. In fact, you can even change the way the buttons look if you don’t like Samsung’s style. Plus, if this is your first Samsung phone the “Back” button is likely in the wrong place. We’ll show you how to change that too.

Follow our quick video guide, or keep reading for the step-by-step instructions.

Our video is from the S9, but the settings are the exact same. With the tap of a few buttons in settings your Galaxy Note 9 will look completely different. As you saw in our video above, it’s rather easy. If you can’t watch it, follow the step-by-step instructions below.

How to Change the Galaxy Note 9 Navigation Bar (Buttons & Colors)

  • Pull down the notification bar and tap the gear-shaped Settings Button (or find Settings in the app tray)
  • Select Display from the list
  • Scroll down and tap on Navigation Bar

Once you get on this menu you’ll see a lot of different options. I’m using a stock Android theme, so my buttons changed and look like stock Android. You can do that too, reorder the buttons, or change the colors. Simply scroll through the list and learn what’s available. I also put my back button on the right side, as it’s easier for me.

Then, Samsung allows you to change the pressure level of the virtual home button, unlock your phone with the home button, and more. Go ahead and choose from the selections here, and customize the Galaxy Note 9 as you see fit.

More Details & Options

Overall, Samsung made it extremely easy for owners to change and personalize the Galaxy Note 9. Once you change the navigation bar colors, background, or button order, you’re all done. Don’t stop there though, go ahead and customize the notification bar too.

Keep in mind that there will be instances where the navigation bar background color won’t be what you want. While you can choose the color, some apps will turn it transparent for a better viewing experience. The software can control the colors and transparency in some situations.
