How to Take a Photo While Shooting Video with the Galaxy Nexus

Published

on

Say what you will about the quality of the camera housed on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but there is no denying that Google packed in a ton of useful features into Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich that make it enjoyable to use. There are also some lesser known features than the advertised ones like Panoramic Mode and baked in ways to tailor your content to your liking. One such feature, as pointed out by a user on Reddit, is the ability to take a photo while you’re shooting video.

Yeah, it doesn’t sound like much but those of you with a passion for photography will probably appreciate this hidden gem.

So, the process of taking a photo while shooting video on your Galaxy Nexus is extremely simple. All you have to do is open up your device’s Camera, put said Camera into video mode, and tap the screen while you’re shooting video.

Your Galaxy Nexus should present a red box around the viewfinder and if that’s the case, you should have a still image of whatever you’re shooting waiting for you in your Gallery.

The best part is, it doesn’t interrupt your video while you’re shooting.

Obviously, you’re without a few of the options that you get while shooting a normal photo. You can’t adjust the focus and you don’t get extremely fast photo captures but that doesn’t take away from this being extremely useful.

Right now, we’re unsure if this available through ICS or if it’s a Galaxy Nexus feature. One Nexus S owner says that he has Android 4.0 but can’t do this so at this point, we’ll assume it’s just another little goodie that Google and Samsung packed into the Nexus.
