It’s tough to beat the speed and accuracy of a physical keyboard, but with a few simple tricks and tips its easy to type faster and more accurately on the iPhone.
While some users will long for a BlackBerry keyboard and might want to check out this physical iPhone keyboard case on Kickstarter.
From developing a better typing style, high school typing class teachers will appreciate, to using and mastering shortcuts and built-in features, we have you covered.
How to Type More Efficiently on the iPhone
To type more efficiently with the iPhone it is useful to use the touch type method. What this means is that when typing on iPhone look at where you are typing not at the letters themselves.
This is very similar to the way that a user types on a pc. It looks silly when someone is staring at the keys themselves and pecking their way around the keyboard. Applying this to an iPhone increases the speed at which a user can type and also improve the accuracy in spelling and prevent embarrassing autocorrections.
How to Turn on Caps Lock on the iPhone
Many users also may find it useful to enable caps lock. Just like on any other keyboard caps lock makes all the letters appear as capital. This can be used for capitalizing an entire word or maybe longer compared to pressing shift for each individual letter.
Double Tap the shift key to enable Caps Lock.
If the shift key then turns blue like the image above that indicates that Caps Lock is enabled. Tap shift again to go back to regular capitalization.
How to Setup Typing Shortcuts on the iPhone
Another method to improve the efficiency of typing on the iPhone is by using shortcuts. Using shortcuts in iOS 5 allow users to setup a shortcut for a longer word or phrase that can be used to increase typing speed.
Scroll down and Tap Add New Shortcut
On the next screen fill in the phrase you would like to make a shortcut for and in the shortcut box create the letter combination that will replace the word.
After that is done Press Save in the top right and your shortcut is ready to use.
So with a few easy tips typing on the iPhone can be changed into an efficient and easy to use system. What other ways do you tweak your iPhone keyboard to make it easier to type with? Leave us a comment below
