First HTC Android 4.2 & Sense 5 Update Leaks

The first of what will likely be a series of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and Sense 5.1 updates have leaked in the form of an system dump for the HTC Butterfly, known in the U.S. as the Droid DNA, which has been rumored to be one of the device’s getting an upgrade to Sense 5.1 and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean in the future.

Rumors have been rampant in regards to HTC’s plans for Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which it still has yet to put on a device, and the upcoming Sense 5 update for its older devices. HTC has only confirmed that the HTC One X, One X+, One S and the HTC Butterfly will be getting some pieces of Sense 5 but has yet to issue any word on the whereabouts of Android 4.2, even for the new HTC One.

The HTC One X, like the HTC Butterfly, is said to be getting Android 4.2 and Sense 5.

The HTC One X, like the HTC Butterfly, is said to be getting Android 4.2 and Sense 5.

We’ve heard whispering about the company’s plans though with whispers suggesting that it’s planning to upgrade several older devices including the HTC Butterfly, HTC One X+, HTC One X, Droid Incredible 4G LTE, Droid DNA and HTC EVO 4G LTE to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which will also bring the new Sense 5 UI along with it.

A recent leak seems to point to that being likely as a system dump for the HTC Butterfly, the international equivalent to the Droid DNA, has brought Android 4.2 and Sense 5.1 to the surface.

HTCSoku, a HTC centric site that has leaked information in the past, caught wind of the leak and as RootzWiki points out, it has been available for quite some time on XDA-Developers forum though its presence wasn’t known.

The update evidently comes with HTC BlinkFeed, the news feed style home screen that comes with Sense 5, but it doesn’t come with HTC Zoe, one of the more unique aspects of Sense 5. So that could mean that all of the Sense 5/5.1 updates for older devices will be without HTC Zoe, something that was rumored in the past.

It sounds like a release for the HTC Butterfly in Asia might be close though there is no word on when the Droid DNA on Verizon might be getting the update. In any event, this seems to back up the previous rumors of Android 4.2 and Sense 5 arriving at the same time for older devices, and now, we just need some release dates from HTC and the carriers of these devices.
