HTC confirmed that it has another second-generation version of the HTC Butterfly in the works, a device known as the Droid DNA on Verizon in the United States, and as it appears that it will be out soon, this could very well wind up being Verizon’s version of the HTC One.
Rumors have been flying around lately about a potential Verizon version of the new HTC One, a device that was launched back in February and will be released in the weeks ahead on AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. And while Verizon isn’t expected to be one of the first carriers to host the HTC One, it has been rumored to be getting it at some point down the road.
Current rumors suggest that Verizon’s version of the device will come a month or two after other carriers and that it will have a DLXPLUS model name. The HTC DLX was the original name of the Droid DNA. Rumors have suggested that based on this, the DLXPLUS could ultimately end up being Verizon’s new version of the Droid DNA and perhaps Verizon’s version of the HTC One.
Those rumors have gained steam today as a report from Focus Taiwan claims that HTC executive Ben Ho, chief marketing officer of HTC, has confirmed that a next-generation HTC Butterfly is coming soon. The HTC Butterfly is of course the Droid DNA, only, the Droid DNA features Verizon branding.
It’s unclear just what the next-generation HTC Butterfly has on board but it could be a 5-inch device like the original HTC Butterfly. The HTC One comes with a 4.7-inch display and rumors about the DLXPLUS have suggested a 4.7-inch display as well, however.
It’s also unclear just where it might be released. However, given that Verizon launched the previous Butterfly and won’t have an HTC One at launch, it could be that this device will ultimately be Verizon’s version of the HTC One, perhaps, branded as the Droid DNA 2.
It also could be that the Droid DNA 2 and the Verizon HTC One are two, totally different devices but it would be strange to see Verizon release an entirely similar phone so late in the game. Instead, it may want to offer something different and perhaps a Droid DNA 2 with a 5-inch display and a similar full metal HTC One design will be it.
HTC says that it will launch soon, so hopefully, we see some official details emerge sooner rather than later.
