HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat Update Details Falling Into Place

Shortly after the Android 4.4 KitKat update was announced, HTC confirmed the software for the HTC One in the United States, saying that it would be rolling the update out within 90 days. Today, the company has shed more light on the upcoming HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update as the company says that it will be looking to roll out the software from the end of January in the United Kingdom.

Last week, Google debuted the Nexus 5 and along with it, the Android 4.4 KitKat update, an update that will replace Android Jelly Bean as the company’s flagship operating system. The software is not a massive overhaul to Google’s mobile software but it’s an update that brings some new functionality to the table, functionality that Android users are excited about.

While the company confirmed the software for its Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10, it did not confirm the software for any other devices. Of course, that hasn’t stopped information from seeping to the surface. Almost immediately after the announcement, we saw HTC announce its plans for the Android 4.4 KitKat update in the United States.

The company confirmed that it would roll out the update, across carriers, within 90 days. It also confirmed that the HTC One Google Edition would get it within 15 days while the unlocked model would get it within 30 days. The company also confirmed updates for the HTC One Max and the HTC One mini, two of its other HTC One branded devices.

Today, we’re seeing more HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat details as HTC UK has confirmed its plans to upgrade the HTC One to Android 4.4 KitKat starting at the end of January. Given that the United States is typically not first in line for updates, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise but it’s still the confirmation that device owners were looking for.

The company does not say what’s on board but it won’t be Sense 5.5 as that software rolled out today with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Instead, it will likely contain features of Android 4.4 KitKat as well as enhancements and fixes for Sense 5.5.

At this point, there is no reason to believe that HTC will fail to deliver on its promises so HTC One owners in the UK and U.S. should be on the look out for the update at the tail end of January. It’s unlikely going to come any sooner than that.
