The HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update could roll out for some users in 2013 as a noted HTC insider says that he believes HTC One users will get a present before Christmas, a sign that the Android 4.4 KitKat update could land for some owners of HTC’s current flagship much sooner than the January release date that we’ve heard about.
Several days ago, HTC confirmed that it would be bringing the HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update to owners of the Google Play Edition, the Developer Edition and the regular model found in regions like the United States. At the time, the company said that the Google Play Edition would get the software update within 15 days, the Developer Edition within 30 days and that the regular HTC One, in the United States, would get the software update by January 29th, or, 90 days from the Android 4.4 KitKat announcement.
Shortly after, we saw HTC UK confirm that it would more than likely be rolling out the update in late January and we also saw a carrier confirm its intentions for a January roll out. These dates seemed to point to a January roll out, across the board, for the regular old HTC One that was recently updated with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
Interestingly enough, noted HTC insider LLabTooFeR, a person who is familiar with HTC’s plans for software upgrades, is claiming that the HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Sense version of the device could come in 2013, possibly in time for Christmas. Nothing is confirmed yet but he has been dead on with his information in the past.
@Dobbyea I believe you will get present before Christmas :)

This isn’t too surprising given that some regions typically get updates several weeks before others. Taiwan, for instance, is often at the forefront of HTC One updates and we could see it get Android 4.4 KitKat delivered several weeks before the software arrives for carriers in the United States.
HTC One owners should temper their expectations of course as HTC hasn’t confirmed anything but it’s looking like there is a good chance that we could see the HTC One get Android 4.4 KitKat before the end of the year.
The HTC One Google Play Edition is said to be getting the update soon and HTC’s timeline puts the software update inside of this week. Thus far, we haven’t seen anything roll out but that could change soon.
