HTC One Nexus Rumors Heat Up

Published

on

Much like the Verizon HTC One release rumors, rumors of a HTC One Nexus are starting to heat up with rumors about a vanilla version of the popular HTC One starting to pick up steam ahead of a possible release down the road.

Earlier this month, at Google I/O, Google announced a new Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus, also known as the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition, that will be coming to shelves in late June. Unlike the regular Galaxy S4, it will feature quick updates and pure vanilla Android software, combined with the normal Galaxy S4 hardware features.

The HTC One Nexus could be the real deal it seems.

Almost immediately, consumers began to wonder about an HTC One Nexus, a Nexus based on the other big name Android smartphone that has launched this year. With its full metal design, the HTC One makes an attractive Nexus option, should one ever arrive.

Publicly, HTC says that it’s not working on an HTC One Nexus. However, rumors have suggested that an HTC One with vanilla software will be coming to shelves as an HTC One Nexus or HTC One Google Edition.

The initial rumor was followed last week by a report from Geek that claimed that the HTC One Nexus could debut in as little as two weeks time. It’s rumored to be coming to the U.S. first, possibly on the Google Play Store, and with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. If true, it could possibly join or beat the Verizon HTC One to shelves, a device that is rumored to be making a debut before the month of July is over.

Today, more information has surfaced with Pocket-lint claiming that HTC will indeed be releasing an HTC One Nexus but that it will be a limited run, at least at first, to see what sales are like. This seems to suggest that it will be HTC, and not Google, that will be selling a device if it arrives.

@LLabTooFeR, the originator of the rumor, has also chimed in, claiming that the HTC One Nexus isn’t necessarily going to be available in two weeks, meaning, it could potentially get announced and released at a later date or perhaps miss that two week time frame completely.

Furthermore, he suggests that it’s unclear if the device will be sold through HTC directly or through the Google Play Store like the Samsung Galaxy S4. At this point, the former appears to be more likely.

Finally, he also says he doesn’t think the HTC One Nexus will be heading to Verizon. Given the disastrous results with the Verizon Galaxy Nexus and its slow updates, it would be surprising to see the device land on Verizon.

At this point, it’s looking increasingly more likely that the HTC One Nexus is a real thing. However, interested parties should remain cautious as HTC has yet to confirm anything.
