HTC One X Sense 5.5 Update Coming Claims Carrier (Updated)

HTC hasn’t announced the new Sense 5.5 just yet but we know that the update is indeed real and that it will likely make its debut on the upcoming HTC One Max. Rumors suggest that it will be coming to the HTC One with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and now, thanks to a carrier, it looks like it may be hitting the HTC One X as well.

The Sense 5 that arrived with the HTC One back in April is going to be replaced at some point this year by Sense 5.5. No, HTC hasn’t confirmed anything just yet but a noted insider familiar with HTC’s plans revealed that the international HTC One would be getting the new Sense 5.5 with Android 4.3 after the arrival of the Sense 5.5-powered HTC One Max.

HTC’s One Max is thought to be its competitor for the Galaxy Note 3, and a device that is going to be coming out at some point between the months of October and December. It’s not clear what Sense 5.5 will entail but there will likely be some new functionality on board when it does arrive.

Update: Unfortunately, it appears that it was nothing more than a typo.

A HTC One X Sense 5.5 update is now a possibility.

A HTC One X Sense 5.5 update is now a possibility.

With the HTC One Max set for the fourth quarter, we’re likely only a few weeks away from the debut of Sense 5.5, an update that, again, HTC has yet to confirm. However, thanks to an Australian carrier, we appear to now have further confirmation of not only Sense 5.5 itself but another possible Sense 5.5 update.

According to Vodafone Australia, HTC is preparing to submit an update for the HTC One X for testing purposes. That update is an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update, the same one that has hit HTC One X devices in other regions around the world already. However, what’s interesting is that Vodafone suggests that the update is coming with Sense 5.5, not Sense 5.0.

This is extremely interesting because Sense 5.5 isn’t confirmed and the HTC One X got Sense 5.0 everywhere else. So it’s possible that Vodafone made a mistake here and meant to put Sense 5.0 or, it made a mistake and slipped Sense 5.5 out ahead of time. We’re not sure how it would confuse the two but it’s a possibility.

The HTC One X Sense 5.5 update could land with Android 4.2.

The HTC One X Sense 5.5 update could land with Android 4.2.

This wouldn’t be the first time that we’ve seen such a move get pulled. In the U.S., the HTC One will be skipping right to Android 4.3 though it should be coming with Sense 5 not Sense 5.5.

So, it could be that the HTC One X is pulling a similar move, skipping an older piece of software for a newer one. After all, Sense 5 has been out for many months now and with Sense 5.5 on the way, perhaps HTC and Vodafone saw it fit to move right to the new version.

AT&T’s HTC One X update still hasn’t been rumored so it’s unclear if it will get Android 4.2 with Sense 5 or Sense 5.5. If Vodafone’s claim is accurate, it’s possible that it too could get Sense 5.5 instead of Sense 5 with its Android 4.2.2 update.
