While maybe not as publicized, the Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich update is in the same situation as the HTC ThunderBolt ICS update. Specifically, it was delayed and was not given an expected arrival time which means it’s currently in limbo. Curious Droid Incredible 2 owners have been writing in to HTC demanding answers and we have now learned that HTC is giving Droid Incredible 2 owners the same generic excuse they gave to HTC ThunderBolt owners.
Over the weekend, we received several emails from angry Droid Incredible 2 owners who wrote into HTC demanding to know if and when they should expect the delayed Ice Cream Sandwich update for their device.
HTC originally said that the update would be out by the end of August but missed that date more than a month ago.
In reply, they got a response from HTC, a response that exactly mirrors a response the company gave HTC ThunderBolt owners about their Ice Cream Sandwich inquiries.
Here is HTC’s reply, in regards to the whereabouts of the Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich update:
The Incredible 2 is indeed slated to receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update. I apologize, however; as HTC no longer announces dates for release of software due to the nature of the software development process. At any point in the software development cycle a situation may be encountered that requires anything from some minor additional rework, to complete rewrites of the software base. Only after the final acceptance testing has been successfully completed will HTC release software. The normal time period between the final acceptance testing and release of software is about a week and often shorter than that.
There are two things that Droid Incredible 2 owners can take from this. One, the update appears to still be coming. That’s a bit of a relief. And two, it would appear that the software is still in testing which doesn’t bode well for a release in September.
Of course, HTC could surprise ThunderBolt and Droid Incredible 2 owners with ICS in September but at this point, it appears unlikely, especially given that we haven’t seen Verizon post the update to its website.
It’s also clear that HTC is not going to give Droid Incredible 2 owners any information than that response so at this point, contacting HTC representatives is futile.
Hopefully, October is the month, but without a release window, Droid Incredible 2 owners could be waiting even longer than that for Ice Cream Sandwich.
