Huawei to Join Nokia, HTC With Colorful Polycarbonate Windows Phone 8 Model?

It looks like Huawei may be joining the design meme of rivals Nokia and HTC with the Chinese company’s latest Windows Phone 8 model. According to leaked images of the Huawei W1 smartphone, which is pegged to be a mid-range model competing against the Nokia Lumia 820 and the HTC 8V smartphones running on Microsoft’s mobile OS, the W1 will have a colorful polycarbonate or plastic shell that’s reminiscent of Nokia’s Lumia design language.

Leaked images of the W1 smartphone show a smartphone with a colorful cyan blue shell on the rear side and a front glass display. The cyan blue color was used and promoted heavily by Nokia when it had launched the Lumia 900 in the U.S. under wireless carrier AT&T.

The colorful plastic shell looks similar to the design that Nokia is employing for the flagship Lumia 920 and the Lumia 800 and 900 in the past. It’s also similar to the HTC 8X flagship. It’s unclear how Nokia will react to the W1’s colorful design as it’s been speculated in the past that Nokia is looking to file a patent infringement suit against Windows Phone manufacturer HTC over the 8X’s design.

According to a report on WP Central, the Huawei W1, like the HTC 8X and the Lumia 920, will also be offered in a wide range of colors. The smartphone will have a 4-inch WVGA display, 1.2 GHz single-core CPU, 512 MB RAM, and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera. Additionally, it appears that unlike the HTC and Nokia models, the battery may be removable thanks to what looks like a removable back battery cover with a notch on the rear bottom side.
