iOS 6 Jailbreak: Bugs Fixed, Progress on Jailbreak Tool

Published

on

Work on the iOS 6 jailbreak continues with important progress on fixing bugs that stand in the way of the teased Sunday iOS 6 jailbreak release.

Update: evasi0n iOS 6 jailbreak tool announced

Now that iOS 6.1 is out the evad3rs team is hard at work fixing bugs in the jailbreak process and working on the iOS 6 jailbreak tool that will eventually handle the bulk of the work to jailbreak the iPhone 5 and other devices running iOS 6 and iOS 6.1.

Earlier this week @planetbeing shared that the team completed a proof of concept jailbreak on the command line level and was working on polishing the  process for a public release.

This morning @planetbing Tweeted that the release is “getting closer.”

Fixing a stuck-on-boot bug, even one that is rare, is good news. If none of this makes sense, @planetbeing provides an explanation which breaks down what the team is up against.

The kernel is the part of the OS that controls everything else. Jailbreaking is all about controlling the kernel with exploits. In order to use our exploits, we need to know exactly how the kernel is laid out inside the computer. Unfortunately, the kernel’s layout changes every time you boot up the computer or even as you use it in ways that are hard, but not impossible to predict. If we can predict the layout accurately, our exploits will work. If not, our exploits may sometimes work and sometimes not.

In short, fixing this bug means the iOS 6 jailbreak will work instead of fail during certain situations. It’s not clear if there are other bugs of similar nature that need fixed to make sure the exploit works all the time.

iOS 6 jailbreak logoIn addition to work on the jailbreak process, the evad3rs team is working on making an easy to use iOS 6 jailbreak too;, which is reportedly coming together well.

Team member @pimskeks chimed in Tweeting, “The GUI is also making progress.” The GUI, or graphical user interface, is what users will see and interact with while using the iOS 6 jailbreak tool. This tool will marry the back-end work that @planetbeing shared with buttons and directions that users can understand and follow.

There is no name for the evad3rs iOS 6 jailbreak tool, but with teases of a release soon we should know within the next week. The upcoming jailbreak tool is an untethered iOS 6.1 jailbreak, compatible with iOS 6, iOS 6.0.1 and iOS 6.0.2. The tool will allow users to jailbreak the iPhone 5, iPad 4 and iPod touch 5th generation as well as older Apple devices running iOS 6 or higher.

Stay tuned for the latest iOS 6 jailbreak news.

Excellent news guys, loving how teamwork really does pay off. Cannot wait, and even if it’s not released on Sunday, the day it’s released should be declared a national holiday ( but only to apple users. Balls to android)

People seriously, if all your going to do is post on a topic that annoys you, or makes you come out with obscene comments than why bother registering to post a comment in the first place. The jailbreak dev team do this on their own time, with their own equipment for no financial gain. If your that bothered and/or impatient then why don’t YOU do your own…

Typical android users, foul language, insults only to defend their position on owning cheaply made low resale electronics, have fun android users, and don’t worry when you purchase an apple product and jailbreak we won’t hate on you we’re just a little better than that. Hooray for the Evad3rs!!

I was thinking this was one of the reasons why there was a reluctance to release a JB this time round. I read somewhere that Apple had some legal thing in place to prevent JB’ing. Now that the top devs are on it then maybe not or maybe because one single person is not responsible directly for a jB then maybe it is a way of getting around it. I mean if any one person did something but on its own would not constitute a JB then how could that person be prosecuted. Even as a collective effort they still technically haven’t done anything wrong because no one person is going to take the credit. That’s my thinking anyway. I really hope we see it soon now, one things for sure, I am not making the mistake of updating again until I’ve done my research lol. Well done chaps:)
