iOS 6 Jailbreak Update: Pod2g Speaks on Jailbreaking, iPhone 5 and Apple
The iOS 6 jailbreak process is a slow and difficult wait, especially for the first iPhone 5 jailbreak, with few official updates from the well-known and respected iOS hackers, but Pod2g breaks his silence on the iOS 6 jailbreak in an interview with iDownloadBlog.
In the lengthy interview Pod2g, who’s real name is Cyril, shares his thoughts on the iOS 6 jailbreak progress, what motivates him and a message to Apple about the iPhone 5 and the future of the iPhone.
Pod2g isn’t working on an iOS 6 jailbreak full-time, but he has high hopes that one will be found and he may jump back into the jailbreak game.
I honestly believe that iOS 6 will be jailbroken and that developers will keep coming up with more quality apps.

Will Pod2g work on the iOS 6 Jailbreak?
After WWJC Pod2g found renewed interest in working on an IOS 6 jailbreak, likely the untethered iOS 6 jailbreak, especially when in the company of @planetbeing, another well-known iOS hacker who is one of the hackers on the front lines of bringing a public iOS 6 jailbreak release.
There is a big chance I change my mind. I actually spent a few hours on it since WWJC, but I still don’t have enough time to work on it.
Working with @planetbeing motivates me a lot. He’s always very resourceful and he raises the bar.
Despite the Dream Team Jailbreak efforts on the iPhone 4S jailbreak earlier this year, Pod2g is disheartened by the lack of credit for his role in the jailbreak, telling IDownloadBlog it is one of the reasons he has not been actively working on an iOS 6 jailbreak.
I’ll admit that when I hear that the jailbreak was released by the Chronic Dev Team, it makes me jump off my seat, and it is the reason why I kinda stepped away from it these last few months.
Cyril is not a one man show, he credits @MuscleNerd, @pimskeks, @planetbeing, and @saurik as the major players behind the jailbreak. He teamed up with the Chronic Dev Team thanks to their infrastructure.
Forcing Himself to Work on the iOS 6 Jailbreak
Cyril is positive on the outlook for an iOS 6 jailbreak, and he is forcing himself to work on the jailbreak by carrying two iOS 6 devices that aren’t jailbroken as his daily use devices.
All my devices are jailbroken except for the ones I use daily (iPhone 4S, and iPad 3). These two aren’t jailbroken for two reasons:
to force me to work on the iOS 6 jailbreak and because I am currently developing an official application, I want to be able to test it in a stock configuration
This is good news considering the instrumental role pod2g played in the iPhone 4S jailbreak for iOS 5. Cyril feels the pressure from his Twitter followers, but overall the community is respectful to the jailbreak developers, who balance family and a full-time job with the work on an iOS 6 jailbreak.
Some of his followers are suggesting the teams wait to release an iOS 6 jailbreak until iOS 6.1 is out. We expect iOS 6.1 in early 2013. By waiting the iOS 6 jailbreak would last longer on new devices.
On Apple and the iPhone 5
Cyril ends the interview challenging Apple to innovate the iPhone line.
The second message is to Apple, because I was disappointed about the iPhone, which has no significant added value compared to the iPhone 4S, especially in France where there is no 4G LTE support. I can’t find the innovation in this product that I was able to find in previous models. You have to take risks, add new features while improving interactivity. I’m worried about the future, especially with this closed OS and pressure coming from Android.
This isn’t his only advice to Apple. Earlier in the interview he also suggests that Apple stop fighting the jailbreak, and allow users to install unsigned apps without a jailbreak. Cyril says, like OS X, “It could be done the right way to let people install tweaks while making sure piracy is limited.”
iOS 6 Jailbreak Today
The iOS 6 jailbreak for the iPhone 5 and other Apple devices is still a work in progress. We’ve heard of progress from various parties in the past three months, but it looks like the iOS 6 jailbreak release won’t arrive until at least 2013. Pod2g says he is, “very confident about the next 6 months.” while talking about the community and the jailbreak, which is a good sign.

iPhone 5 is not much better than the previous version (4S). Jb is pretty much dying slowly in every new release of ios. Why buy a phone and wait painfuly for a jailbreak? Save yourself the headache and try something else. There are better products out there. Why stick with one brand that is not going anywhere? Life is too short. Take a chance and move on.

Kinda lame – he’s disappointed that he’s not getting more respect? Please. If you expect something in return for your efforts, setup a donations box. Tons of people would donate tons of money.
And btw, I thought it was known that the previous jailbreak was mostly a result of POD2G’s work – what kind of credit is he looking for?
Also, I agree completely with his opinion of the latest iPhone. Really lame (as was the 4s), and I wouldn’t even consider upgrading if it weren’t for LTE (which is pretty cool). Can’t wait to upgrade (when the JB comes out).

I have owned an iPhone since the 3G came out a few years ago and continued to update every year.. I love this phone. And loved it even more with all the tweaks that the jailbreaks brought . I now own an iPhone 5. Not jailbroken but with a dev account. You can still do more with a jailbreak! Dev accounts are basically for app developers or app pirates that just sign app. Considering moving on to Android. I know we also have to “root” Android phones for modding and theming, but still those dam androids come basically (pre)jailbroken.
I love apple. Have an iPad nano, iPhone 5, a MacBook Pro and a Lenovo A2109 Jelly Bean tablet.
Kinda diggin jelly bean.
Android may be my next phone.
Lets see if Apple can add a micro sd card slot and some sort of pre jailbreak. I’m a geek. And love to experiment. Come on, Apple!

i never was a iPhone guy, went and brought one a Iphone 4s. jailbreak it when 5.3 was the o.s. actually like it. by the way I’m a huge android fan. but i wanted to give iPhone a shot. upgraded to ios 6. its been 6 months plus waiting for a untethered jailbreak for this phone that always seems to be one step behind android tech. iPhone always seems to wait a year to come with an “upgrade” this year a supposedly bigger screen, yeah crap! Samsung galaxy 3 screen makes a joke of apple on that aspect. so as im writing this i don’t see what innovations this phone has come out with sense it debut other then jail-breaking it! now i can’t even do that! very upset with apple but this is exactly how in the 90’s apple almost went bankrupt, being ridiculously strict with their products and trying to monopolize their tech. I’m not happy with this phone unless i can jailbreak it now I’m reading i gotta wait 6 months plus?!!! yeah this may be the last time ever i buy anything apple. i will deal with so called laggy android, at lease with android i can do anything with those phones and that’s without unlocking the phones!!! apple get your BS together cause it seems droid is about to literally kill you.

The problem isn’t really the Iphone itself, the problem is 1. Apple is paranoid of pirating and 2. the lousy mobile plans available to use on the iPhone. If AT&T, Verizon, etc had real unlimited plans for reasonable monthly amounts people would need unlocking to use those providers that do. Straight Talk, Net 10, etc. AND if Apple wasn’t so restrictive on apps people wouldn’t need jailbreaking to get those needed and wanted apps. The iPhone capabilities are there, the greed keeps the manufacturer and the service providers from allowing normal people from using those capabilities.

The apple might have a secret deal with a developer to make sure a jailbreak will be released few weeks before next iPhone release and everyone forgets the problem and start loving the iPhone again. I hope if everyone start moving to other phones like android this world will become a better place. android will release better and stable OS with more money coming in and apple will start respecting the consumers and developers will stop selling the exploits to apple. May be apple might even remove restrictions to allow installing cydia apps without a jailbreak. By the way I own iPhone 5 and S3 and I love S3 much better than iPhone 5.

Guess what?? More than 99% of iPhone buyers don’t jailbreak their phones. In fact, I only know one person of about 250 individuals who have iPhones and they don’t JB them. Further, I now have met thousands of people at corporate conferences who are not allowed to JB their phones because their company bought the iPhones for them – and universally corporate policy prohibits jailbreaking. Jail breakers are in the minority, way in the minority. So go to android if you wish, but the doomsayers of Apple’s demise because of Apple’s refusal to go along with the small jb community is absurd. In fact, more and more corporations are either supplying iPhones for their workers or telling their workers that they need an iPhone, for security reasons, as their mobile to communicate with the company….

Difference for me between iPhone and a android… No matter the brand of android be it s3, note 2, etc etc… The video quality is too horrible and pixelated. Wifi does not help and with the iPhone, wifi makes such a crisper image. Jail breaking and using unrestrictor makes the videos always crystal clear. That’s what keeps me getting a iPhone. Played with all the phones that I listed, and for me, it’s all about the picture quality. If the video quality ever catches up then I might switch back to android type phones. Almost forgot… Multitasking on iPhone is a lot better than android and Also the battery life. I agree that the iPhone un jailbroken is kinda useless. But you know, that doesn’t affect the visual of videos.
