The iPhone 4 has one of the best cameras available on a smart phone. So people are doing a lot of crazy things to use that better than average glass for shooting pictures. This one made me say “Wow!” It got me all excited but when reason took over I wondered, “Why would I want to do this?”

The adapter is also a case that lets you mount your Canon EOS or Nikon SLR lenses on the iPhone 4. You can have a telephoto, wide-angle, fish-eye or tilt-shift lens mounted to your iPhone 4. Any lens that fits your Nikon or Canon digital SLR camera can fit your phone. There are even loop holes to put a camera strap on the lens case. This makes it easier to carry around with a one of these $13,000 800mm Canon lenses:

The problem with this idea is that if I’m going to carry around my lenses, why wouldn’t I just carry the camera back as well? The page advertising this at Photojojo mentions being able to wow your Instagram followers. But who cares if you have a better lens on your iPhone while shooting in Instagram when you are just going to filter the photo to death to make it look like you pulled grandpa’s old Kodak out of the closet?

If you are inclined to give it a shot, you will have to fork over some hefty amounts of cash. Both the Canon and Nikon compatible mounts are a whopping $190. For that price you cold get a good used camera back on eBay.

To compare an apple with an apple: If the SLR lens is mounted on a Nikon F or F2, then the same lens mounted on this new iphone adapter: What is the difference????Qualitywhise we are comparing at least 20mio pixels against 5! Are we nuts?
