Prior to the Samsung Galaxy S4 launch, there were rumors that Samsung may have had a Galaxy S4 Mini to launch alongside the Galaxy S4 in preperation for a release in May. Obviously, those rumors didn’t come to fruition but today, the Galaxy S4 Mini rumor mill is at work again with the emergence of several photos that proclaim to be the Samsung Galaxy S4’s smaller brother, the Galaxy S4 Mini GT-I9190.
On stage last week, Samsung debuted only one new piece of hardware, the Samsung Galaxy S4, much like it did last year with the Samsung Galaxy S3. However, later in the year, the company released a smaller version of the Galaxy S3 called the Galaxy S3 Mini, the GT-8190. Prior to the Galaxy S4 launch, there were rumors of a Galaxy S4 Mini, set for release in May, but that device never appeared.
Today though, it may have made its first appearance courtesy of SamMobile which has splayed out a series of photos that appear to depict a smaller Galaxy S4 next to the Galaxy S4 itself.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini shown here is said to have a launch date of June or July, after the Samsung Galaxy S4 arrives on shelves, and it’s thought to have some pretty powerful specifications including a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display with 256ppi, 1.6GHz dual-core processor, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean along with Samsung’s new TouchWiz interface, Nature UX 2.0.
What’s more is that the device looks, unsurprisingly a lot like the Samsung Galaxy S4 design that we saw emerge on stage last week. The Galaxy S4 Mini, if real, looks to be exactly that.
Samsung has not yet confirmed anything for launch but given the Galaxy S3 Mini, the previous rumors and now this photo evidence, it looks like Samsung does indeed have a smaller Galaxy S4 planned for later on this year.
Don’t expect the company to announce it at an Unpacked event though. Instead, it should quietly announce it for several regions around the world. Whether or not the United States will be one of them remains to be seen.
