Lenovo K2 Benchmark Boasts Full HD Display, Tegra 3

Lenovo has yet to announce its LePad K2, but the tablet has been put to the test utilizing GL Benchmarks. The benchmark results reveal that the 10-inch slate was tested running Android 3.2 Honeycomb, and not Ice Cream Sandwich, and that the processor is made by NVIDIA. With a quad-core Tegra 3 CPU, performance is an improvement over the Tegra 2 chipset, but in terms of graphics performance, Tegra 3’s 12-core GeForce GPU does not best Apple’s A5 processor on the current generation iPad 2, which utilizes a PowerVR SGX 543MP2 graphics engine.

Like the recently leaked Acer Iconia Tab A700, the LePad K2 will also boast a high resolution true 1080p HD display with an effective resolution of 1920 X 1152. Early 10-inch Honeycomb slates had sported a resolution of 1280 X  800, but with smartphones moving into the 720p HD resolution display territory, it makes sense for tablet-makers to make their displays even with higher pixel count.

While the benchmark doesn’t provide much meaning yet until NVIDIA’s main competitors–Samsung, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments–release their own quad-core ARM-powered CPU, it does reveal that more optimizations may be needed to get competitive graphics performance.
