LG Denies Nexus 4 Supply Issues

The Nexus 4, which has been sold out through the Google Play Store since December, apparently is not suffering from any kind of supply issue, this according to LG, the maker of the current-generation Nexus smartphone.

Back in November, LG and Google launched the Nexus 4 to replace the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the aging Nexus smartphone that arrived in 2011 along with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Since November though, consumers in the United States have had a tough time picking up the unlocked Nexus 4 through the Google Play Store due to a sell out.

Since early December, both the 8GB and 16GB Nexus 4 have been completely sold out through the U.S. Google Play Store after experiencing shipping times that pushed beyond weeks and into months. Thus far, neither Google nor LG have said when the device might become available and it seems that one of those companies isn’t the least bit concerned about the device’s lack of availability.

According to a statement by an unnamed LG representative to Korean publication ChosunBiz, the company doesn’t believe that the LG Nexus 4 has any supply issues whatsoever saying that production is going off “without a hitch.” That statement will likely be a tough pill to swallow for those that have been waiting for several weeks to buy the Nexus 4 as it could mean that LG is in no hurry to resupply the Play Store with ample stock for consumers to buy.

This comes a few weeks after a Google executive blamed LG for what it perceives as supply issues saying that “supplies from the manufacturer are scarce” and that “our communication has been flawed.”

Google’s comments came after LG seemingly blamed Google for the issues saying that “with any sales process, LG supplies product quantities against partners’/customers forecasts” something that, like today’s comments, point to Google not accurately predicting how demand for the Nexus 4.

So, with LG seemingly content with the current state of its Nexus 4 production, it’s unclear how soon the Nexus 4 might come back into stock in the U.S. There were rumors that the company may have been increasing production in order to get devices out faster, but thus far, the devices remains unavailable.

LG also says that rumors of a Nexus 5, a rumor that sprouted up during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week, are “unfounded.”
