Published

on

Back when Google announced the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Android operating system many smartphone owners were excited about the changes, but not sure when their handset would receive it. Luckily LG was one of the first to the update for a small group of owners, and now we’ve learned more details about a more broad LG G3 Android 5.0 update release.

A few weeks back multiple reports and rumors suggested the LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update was progressing rather quickly, and could arrive within a matter of weeks, not months. Then LG officially announced the G3 Android 5.0 update release date for select few on November 10th.

LG beat many of the competition to the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in Poland, but that was for a very small group of users to test the software update before they begin a wide release. Today though, we’re now hearing Korea is up next, which should be quickly be followed by carriers in the United States.

Today LG has confirmed the G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update will officially begin sometime this week in South Korea on three major carriers, pushing the manufacturers latest update and the all new Android 5.0 update to a huge group of users in Korea, and more coming soon.

Not only is the update headed to three major carriers, but they state it will start arriving on all three by the end of the week. This means that LG is confident in the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop for the LG G3, have finished testing, and are likely only waiting for carrier testing phases (usually 4-6 weeks) before pushing the same update out to users in the United States.

Last week the LG G3 in the United States received an update, one which wasn’t Android 5.0 Lollipop, but with more and more good news surfacing regarding the progress of the update, an official release stateside should be coming sooner rather than later.

LG recently confirmed that the G3 Android 5.0 Update would be available in the United States before the end of the year, suggesting they’ll have it done rather quick considering Google only released it to manufacturers on November 3rd. And with some regions already seeing the update, things are moving rather quickly, and it could be here before the end of December from all major US carriers offering the smartphone.

Outside of Korea we can expect the unlocked LG G3 units to see Lollipop first, followed by many US carriers. Last year AT&T was among the first to the Android 4.4 KitKat update in the United States, one that caused many LG G2 owners trouble, but this time around we’re hearing things are coming along much better.

However, there’s no telling just how long the update will take to arrive for those in the United States, as all major carriers are offering the smartphone. The LG G3 was one of the best devices released this year, still has plenty to offer, and will only get better once the G3 Android 5.0 update arrives. We’ll keep an eye out for more details, but owners should expect it soon, hopefully before the end of the year.
