Arguably one of the most exciting smartphones for 2016 along side the new Galaxy S7 will be the LG G5. In November a few early rumors surfaced regarding what could be coming, and now a full set of detailed information like dual cameras and a metal design has been revealed, months and months ahead of the LG G5 release.
The LG G4 was announced back in April, but didn’t hit shelves til June, a few months after the popular Galaxy S6 or HTC One M9. However, this year the company looks to deliver a premium metal LG G5 that can take on the Galaxy S7, iPhone 6s, and others, possibly earlier than many expected.
While most leaks come from websites, Twitter, or Chinese forums, today we received the full scoop regarding the upcoming LG G5 from a user on Reddit that apparently already has a pre-production model in his hands. Read on for the latest LG G5 release rumors based on new information.
In November a leak surfaced out of Korea suggesting this year LG wanted to take hardware more seriously, in order to better compete with the competition. That rumor claimed the LG G5 would have a full metal design, better internals, an improved camera and other things. However, it had no solid details to back it up. This week though, something much better has emerged.
A user on Reddit apparently has the upcoming LG G5, which could be announced in March and released in late April or early May. The user detailed a full set of specs (except battery life) and what appears to be a photo of the back, revealing the phone has a metal construction and three cameras. Then, a screenshot of the specs after running an app that reveals what’s inside the device.
The image above is reportedly the back of the LG G5, but covered in a protective case to hide the final design. Under it and around the fingerprint scanner we can see the metal design. There are two cameras, an LED flash, and what looks to be a heart rate sensor like Samsung’s phones, and of course a fingerprint scanner. Without talking too much more, here’s most of the LG G5 specs based on this leakster.
LG G5 Specs (Rumored)
- 5.3-inch 2560 a 1440 Quad-HD Display
- 8-core Snapdragon 820 processor with 3GB of RAM
- Android 6.0 Marshmallow
- Dual 16 and 8 megapixel rear cameras with OIS
- 8 Megapixel front camera
- LED flash, laser auto-focus, heart rate sensor, and IR sensor on the top
- Full Metal Design
- Micro-SD and SIM card on right edge, in one port (like the Moto X Pure Edition)
- USB Type-C Port
- Bottom Facing Speaker
- Pressure Sensitive Display (maybe)
The few details this leakster wasn’t able to confirm was whether or not the battery is removable, nor the size of the battery. The LG G2, G3, and G4 all had a 3,000 mAh battery, but the increase to a slightly larger 5.3-inch screen could leave room for a bigger 3,200 mAh battery, or more.
From what we’re gathering here it looks like the LG G5 will have a slightly larger display, but not a big phablet size like the Galaxy Note series, which could be a perfect middle ground for buyers next year. It’s running on a powerful 8-core processor, an improved design, three cameras, a fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C and more. Essentially all of the latest and greatest specs are inside of this phone.
As we said above, the leakster also made mention of a pressure sensitive display, similar to 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s. This wasn’t confirmed by the screenshot above, but has also been a key feature rumored for the Galaxy S7. We’ll have to wait and see. All we need to know now is how big the battery is, if it’s removable, what version of Android the phone is running and when it will be released. Expect more photos to surface in the near future and stay tuned for more details.
